Default 95 Z .. stock Bose system - no sound

Quite literally, I park the car one day, the next day I get in,
fire up the car, and no sound out of the Delco/Bose unit.

When I turn the key to ON, with the radio turned OFF,
the time display on the radio shows, --:--.

When I turn the radio ON, I see the last station I had the
radio tuned to - turn the volume up - no sound, but I
can see the volume level indicators move up and down.

I can't change stations via the ****, presets, or Scan; the
last station I was tuned to is the only one in the display.

No sound with a CD inserted, either.

Is the HU completely hosed, or is there some wiring issue?

(No, I have done nothing to the stereo and I did not do
anything electrically to the car).

Here's some shots of the radio "in action":

Thanks for the reply - I'll assume we're talking about the
stereo's ground wire.

I was thinking about pulling the radio and checking things
out - beyond a faulty [wiring harness] wire, there's not
much I'll be able to do to fix the head unit's internals.

Have you checked the fuses? There are two power sources for the head unit (three if you count the illumination) and they're on separate fuses. It sounds like you still have battery power (memory, clock display) but you don't have the ignition switched power.

Well, I removed the radio today and sprayed the wiring harness
connector and the radio's receptacle with electrical spray. I even
opened up the radio to check all the wiring (connections). Plugged
it back up and still have the same issue, so there is obviously
something wrong with the radio's internals.

I have an Alpine (I forgot I had) that I yanked from my SUV
before I sold it. I chopped up a couple of paper clips and soldered
those to some of the wire ends (battery/ignition/ground/RR+/RR-)
on the Alpine's wiring harness, then "plugged" those individual
ends to the stock wiring harness connector (car side).

The Alpine fired up, I inserted a CD ... but I didn't get any sound to
the RR speaker. I'm looking at the 1995 F-Body Bose wiring diagram
and notice there's a Pink wire, which is the negative side of the
Bose relay - it appears that relay is used to provide power to the
Bose amps ... maybe I need to provide (-) to the Pink wire?

Can an aftermarket be wired up without the Scosche adapter?

You don't need that. The Bose system is different than the Monsoon system in the way it uses the amp. That pink wire is the amp on/off signal wire that turns the amp on and supplies power to all the speakers.

I used one of those regular GM adapters that you would use for any aftermarket head unit (to avoid chopping up your factory harness). You just have to make sure you hook up that signal wire in addition to the individual speaker signal wires.

Thanks for the reply - what feeds the pink wire?

What do you mean? It goes directly from the HU to the Bose sub/amp. The HU sends the signal, if that's what you're asking.

So, I'm looking at the schematic for the Alpine aftermarket stereo
unit - there isn't a wire dedicated for the "pink Bose" wire.

I look at the Bose wiring diagram and see that pink runs to the
coil side of the Bose relay (the other side of the coil goes to
ground). The switched side of the relay is positive (normally
closed switch). When I had the Delco/Bose HU open, I saw a
relay (painted white) - I don't know if that is the Bose relay
since I didn't trace the circuitry. Looking at the schematic, it
shows the relay external to the radio (but may not necessarily
be the case). http://shbox.com/1/bose_wiring.jpg

So my question is, what do I wire up to the pink wire on the
car's harness side? A switched positive?

Use the remote turn-on wire from the head unit (usually blue with white). It is there for the purpose of turning on an external amp.

Thanks for the reply! Yep - there is a blue/white and it does have
a "collar" around the wire marked "remote" ... I didn't know that's
what that wire is for (don't have the manual for the unit). I'll get
a GM02B harness today and wire it up. Thanks for the help, all !
