where 2 find=carpet,spkr bx terminals, and 8 gauge wire/and box size question!help!!!
I am wanting to buy a new subwoofer and just wondering what I should be looking for as far as specs go. A lot of them seems so close that its hard to choose. Frequency range? How many db's it is? I have a list made up of the ones that look good. Rockford P2D210; Alpine type S900watt; Two different pioneers one is a champion series(TSW258D2) and the other one is a (TS-W25702). I have a 2 channel amp it claims 560 watts rms bridged. That prolly is a if lightning strikes rating. However, I did use to run a 600 watt kicker with it, so its got some power. I know I either need a 4ohm SVC, or a DVC 2ohm so I can run it at 4ohms.

i got rid of the kicker yrs ago. i found a good deal on the pioneer champ series DVC 2ohm. i can wire it up for bridging at 4ohms on my amp. i just gotta build a box for it something between .65 and 1.25 cu ft. so is a smaller box better for "punchy" bass and a larger box better for "deeper" notes? should i add some of that stuffing/filler stuff? i listen to about 65% rock and 35% rap.

I've heard some pretty ok things about pioneers line up. IMO Rockford on the other hand has gone down hill.
I added filler to the box for my truck which is under the seat. The cubic space was a little low for my sub so I stuffed it with pillow foam and it seems to be doing the trick. I never listened to it without the foam so I don't know what it would've been like before.

Are you looking for more boom or clearity? I ran a kicker for 2 years and i finally got a hole in it while taking it out after I sold my car. I just bought a Boston Acoustics sub and while it isnt as boomy as any others I have its sounds better and is alot clearer. Plus it is fused on the sub itself and you can run them in 2,4 or 8 ohm.
This is coming off of owning Sonys, Kickers and Pioneers.

Boom or clarity, I guess both man, IDK. I guess i've always been happy with a subwoofer and a box, never really thought about it. I know I want to run my speaker at 4ohms for sure. Is there any advantage to running a mono amp vs. 2 channel? I found a mono planet audio 1500watt that I really like the price of and the reviews seem decent. Seems like this would be a good amp to run the pioneer speaker.
claims 700watts rms at 4ohms

Any reason you are wanting to stick to 4 Ohm? Nothing wrong one way or another but most amps if they are 2 ohm stable will produce more power at 2 Ohm. That isn't always the case especially with some alpine amps.

Well i've read a bit about when not using top quality components that running at 2ohm can be hard on cheaper equipment. Also i've read that 4ohm has better sound quality. Of course you noticed I said "read" both times. I am correct about having a mono 2ohm amp and being able to run a 4ohm speaker though right? I know you can't run a 2ohm speaker with a 4ohm amp.

My advice is a Resonant Engineering. I think a RE SRx would be in your price range. If you can swing it, the SEx is a damn good sub as well. I think its about $30 more though.

You should not notice any difference in quality between 2 Ohm and 4 Ohm. If you have a dual 4 ohm voice coil sub you can wire it to run at 2 ohm. They are meant to do so no worries. While you are looking at keeping things on a budget, you are still looking at name brand components. It is the shady ones you have to worry about not running stable

So the planet audio amp claims to be 700watts RMS @4ohms, and 1100watts rms @2ohms. I doubt these are accurate. However, the pioneer claims 350 watts RMS and 1200 watts max. It just seems that running at 4ohms would be adequate.

Hifonics makes good amps for the price. Had a 1500d on 2x 12" DB Drives, 3x mmatt 10", 2x 15" L7's. Always loud, always worked. Paid 200$ for it and it was worth every penny. 2 years running!
I sat one day and tried 4 ohm, 2 ohm, 1ohm, and .5 ohm and after tuning they all sounded the same in terms of clarity but obviously louder cause you get more power out of an amp the lower the ohm's. The hifonics and DB drive setup did .5 ohm and it was really loud but didnt break up at all.

specs on the amp I bought
MAX POWER (2 OHM)2500W x 1
RMS POWER (2 OHMS)1100W X 1
RMS POWER (4 OHMS)700W X 1
Don't know why the planetaudio website says it 2500w max, but it should be 1500w max...?????

But the point of running at 2ohms is to get power isn't it? So if your speaker is 350rms whats the point of wiring it up to run at 2ohms when your amp does 700watts RMS at 4ohms? Of course I understand that some applications need to run at 2ohms to get enough power, but do I need to run at 2ohms just b/c I can? Won't I have to just turn my amp power down so whats the point???
