Upgrading to later model GM delphi(Delco) HU
I want to replace my 03 single CD double Din unit with one from an 08 TBSS
that has internal 6 CD changer XM and bose.
Yea I know about the bose but figured it was easier to add a legit amp and Im actually happy with the sound of my Bose in my Lade so we'll see.
What Im running into is that it seems as the newer units are controlled by the BCM not individual controls as the 03 has.
So any GM radio techs on here that can guide me?
So far Im working on RAP,steering wheel controls, lights and LED dimming and radio on signal to amp.
Im all ears on this one.....

Isn't there a theftlock thing that has to be reset or disabled? I never mess around putting OEM HUs back *in*, but I'm pretty sure it won't work unless you defeat the theftlock feature.
Also, depending on the HUs you are using, you may have to deal with databus issues and it seems like each Bose system is a unique snowflake for each model/year, not exactly interchangeable.
Sorry I wasn't much help, but just be aware this swap probably isn't going to be as straightforward as you may have hoped.

The Bose system in the TrailBlazer is not compatible with your earlier model setup.
First and most important, the head unit is keyed to the vehicle it is first installed in and will not work in another vehicle. I know this because I had an 08 Envoy which we had the dealer upgrade from single disc to in-dash changer before delivery.
Second, there were actually two different Bose systems used in GM SUVs. They are designated LUX and non-LUX. The non-LUX system is very similar to any standard aftermarket system in that the head unit sends an analog signal to an amp which powers the speakers. The LUX system is completely digital and doesn't work anything like a normal system. The LUX head unit outputs a constant level audio signal to the amp that never varies no matter what you do with the controls. When you change something (volume, balance, tone, etc.) the HU sends a Class II data signal to the amp describing the event and the amp then takes care of changing the output to the speakers.
Even if you could make the HU work in a different vehicle, you would have to determine whether it is LUX or non-LUX to figure out which amp you need to go with it. I know the LUX amp is larger than the non-LUX but I don't know if there are any identifying markings on them.

Ive looked up the part#s on amp,HU and XM and all indicated its the base model Bose unit
It has no serial data going to the amp.Im aware of the need to reprogram the new VIN into the radio to reset the theftlok and will use a tech II to force a VIN relearn.
I have amp,HU,XM receiver all from same vehicle. Still investigating the above mentioned
systems to defeat or trick so any input is appreciated. Was your Envoy a Bose unit?

Yes, mine was Bose. The sound wasn't bad but it improved greatly with an aftermarket head unit (Kenwood DNX series) so I'm not sure I would go to too much trouble trying "upgrade" with factory equipment. I was told that the HU could not be reprogrammed for another VIN but that could have been just the dealer being lazy.

I guess I will find out the hard way.
I see same model # CD6 for sale by radio dealers saying its backwards compatible.
If the sound isnt as good as the Bose in my Lade Ill try replacing the amp.
Already replaced 6 speakers with Kappas.
DO you still have the CD6 you took out or know what the # was?
did yours have XM also?

I may have another solution
Im going to get a junkyard BCM for the TB and piggy back it to my BCM.
Feed for steering wheel controls as well as output for class 2 serial data to the XM
receiver and radio will come from this BCM so Ill need to program VIN on radio same as the donor.

well all the radio repair experts said it couldnt be done
I use the word "couldnt",not "cant".
Only thing I need to figure out is the steering wheel controls
and send the XM receiver out to get it reprogrammed.
Or if anyone knows how to change a VIN in a BCM,PM me.
