Default How hard is it to...

run a 3 amp setup?

The sub amp I was lookin at doesnt throw out enough power to power both subs. So I was thinking of doing a slightly smaller amp, but doing 2 of them, one for each sub. How hard is it to wire that up?

so why not keep it simple and get 1 bigger amp? it will probably cost you more to get 2 500 watt amps than 1 1000watt (example).

adding extra amps is easy just like stated above. for competitions,.....i run 4 2400watt amps. one on each voice coil. i also add in 4 more big batteries, the current draw is unspeakable.

it would probably be more cost effective to get one bigger amp than two smaller ones. But if you decide to go with the three amp setup, it really isn't anymore difficult than running two. How much power are you looking to push total for your subs?

For what I want to do the 3 amp setup is cheaper...

the power acoustik amps are cheap (and very high quality especially for the price)

I'll be paying roughly 500 bucks for all 3 amps (this includes a 4 channel speaker amp, and 2 sub amps) and be hitting above rec rms.

where as some of the more powerful single amps cost in excess of 800 bucks

The Hifonics BX1500D is less than $200 and would be suitable for your setup.

LOL Ummm.... Right power acoustik amps are right above boss audio if it says it will make 1600 watts cut that in half for what you can use RMS power then add in that its over rated so about 600 watts of power running at 2 ohms not 4. When you can get a 4000 watt MA audio amp for 200-300 cut in half for RMS power and add in it was rated at 14 volt NOT 12 volt and your still sitting there with 1800 watts of usable power running at 2 ohms which you will have if you run both subs to one amp. Thats still better then two power acoustiks that will be running about 300 watts at 4 ohms but I think they now make one that runs about 600 mono at 4 ohm and is not over $300. But its still will cost more and not be as loud as the MA and MA has a way better rep.

in half?

I have a friend with a similar setup running similar amps (he runs 2 PA amps), amps hit said RMS just like they say on the box

perhaps your setup is wired incorrectly, if you are getting half power out of these amps, impedance. heh

yeah, and my ****** is 18" long. it's true, because i wrote it on a box. power acrapstick. those things couldn't even touch 1kw on a peak with pure distortion. you can get a real 1kw amp for $500 if you dig around. some people like ma audio, but i haven't been impressed by what i've seen of them. not at all. i'm not brand bashing, this is my experience with them. i know a couple guys do well competing with them, but not the guys i've been up against. there's better choices out there imo.

Power Acoustik rates in peak power not RMS I've only been selling/installing their crap for 8 years. A 1600-watt power acoustik amp hits 740 RMS. As it even says on their website
http://www.poweracoustik.com/gothicseries.html

Cut peak in half = Rms most of the time

So yes as I said IN HALF which would be near RMS

ohh to what stroked said I like my MA amp but I've seen some I didn't really like. It's not really the best sounding amp I've ever used but that thing will hit like crazy. Since I got a Rfl for the back I don't think sound quality is going to matter. I like the new mtx amps I may put one of those on my two 12"s going where my back seat was.
