How many still have old school amps?
I grew up when car audio was just starting to get some power, used to use M&M Godfather subs and Punch75 and Punch45 amps. I still use a MTX 2150x amp, late 90's and damn good amp. I see now alot of the high end amps and subs I dreamed about back in the mid to late 90's changed and some are not as good as the old days, such as PG, PPI and even MTX etc... I don't use my system for any show off stuff, just my personal listening, so brand doesn't matter. I am seeing more used old school amps on ebay and really thinking about picking up a few. Some of the high end amp from late 90's at under $100 seem like a good deal and my 2150x has served me well and is pushing 2 Memphis Audio 10's now, so really thinking about a few. How many others run old school car audio?

Old school 80's stuff here. You can't beat the old Fosgate stuff, it was way under rated. The newer stuff may be quieter (lower s/n ratio) than the old, but even Fosgate's marketing dept went the way of the norm and started to rate their stuff as everyone else does. Along with Fosgate, I was also into HiFOnics stuff (are they even around anymore?). I had a Zuess amp running my bass in my old IROC that was stolen.

Hifonics is around, just isn't the same as the old. I am thinking back then the amps were so well made that over the years sales went down because people really didn't need the new model, so now they are making amps a little cheaper so people will need a new one every so often. Just a theory, but all the big high end companies with the most reliable amps PPi, RF, PG, Xtant, Orion, all went for overseas manufacturing or combined companies for some reason. MB quart, Crunch, Autotek, and Hifonics are all owned by the same company maxxsonics.

I remember audio ART, I probably would still be using my old stuff if it didn't get stolen. Even some crap swap meet amps were good for what they were back then, have a Urban Audio amp from mid to early 90's and it still bumps. My wife is using the Urban Audio amp in her new car running a JL audio 10w0. I have a old Phoenix Gold Bass cube somewhere around here I was thinking about finding and trying it out, has been in storage since 2000.

I have a old Orion xtreme 400 in my closet. They used special plug in pieces for the power speaker outs etc...which mine is missing. So It can't even be tested.

that orion amp is still powering my focals.
I'm pretty sure it's 6+ years old.
edit: It's an orion 400.4 from like years ago
anyone able to find specs on this exact amp or line?
I'm curious to find out to see if I can find some more like it

I used to run a cheap LA Sound amp 35x4. Bought it as an open box at Best Buy. The damn thing got submerged in water and still played after it dried out. Worked for a few years more before finally dying. I have a Sony 35x2 amp from 1995 that was my first and only brand new amp. I've had it in numerous vehicles over the years and is currently powering the mids in my Sonoma along with an older MTX amp I got from trading a kid some S10 parts for. It's gotta be at least 5 years old and it's still thumpin. Running it bridged to my 10" sub in my truck. I haven't even picked up a car stereo mag in YEARS. I used to be real into it and wished I had money for a big system. Now I just put together odds and ends for a decent sounding system. It's not the prettiest but it sounds good! Hoping to do some upgrading to the Camaro in the next year or so.

Pretty sure the specs are 50 watts rms x 4 at 4ohm, 200 watts x 2 rms 2 ohm. They were underated alot, so real specs would be more like 75 watts rms x 4 or 300 watts rms x 2 @ 2 ohm.

Good stuff!! I have an old Phoenix Gold MS275 in my Monte pushing an aluminum Eclipse 12. Thing hits pretty good considering the amp is rated at like 75wrms each channel . I have it bridged into 2 ohms, so it puts out a little bit more .
I have an MPS2240 sitting on a shelf until I figure out something to use it with.
In the TA I have a late 90s fosgate with the gold endcaps and the crossover card in it that has always done pretty well .

I used to run all PG ZX series amps (the white ones). They were awesome. The ZX500 was killer. I still have a zx350 but not installed. The amp I am running right now, is an older Orion XTR 800.4 (sliver and black). What an awesome amp.
