Default New Monsoon FAQ sticky

I finally got some time to update the Monsoon FAQ sticky to replace the old one that was there before. Please have a look and let me know what you think and what other topics could be covered.

Excellent report. One quick question. You mention that Firebird's got the power antenna's and Camaro's didn't, are the Camaro's pre-wired for it also or would you have to get a harness from a Firebird if you want a power antenna?

The only 2-ohm speakers is the mid-range in the doors. When I replaced all my speakers this is how the stock ones where labeled.
I haven't actually looked at the convertible speakers but the factory schematic shows the rear speakers as a 2-ohm mid and 4-ohm tweeter. I wouldn't be surprised that they are actually mid-bass speakers because GM's definition of sub, mid-bass, and mid is somewhat "flexible" (i.e. non-standard). I would be surprised that the impedance isn't as specified. Can someone with a vert have another look for us?

No, the Camaros aren't pre-wired for a power antenna but it is easy to add. You will have to add the missing wire where the pink wire goes in the Firebird HU connector and run it to the right quarter for the antenna. Then you will need a battery (always on) power feed and a ground. The battery connection is so that the antenna can continue to lower after the ignition is turned off.

Here is a "how-to":

Okay...but that doesn't show the impedance of the speakers. My schematic for the U59 option (Monsoon in convertibles) for '02 is like the one you posted. For '01 the schematic shows 2-ohm woofers and 4-ohm tweeters. For earlier models it shows 2-ohm mids and 4-ohm tweeters.

Since I suspect that all years were actually wired the same and the schematics are inconsistent, I was hoping somebody who still had the factory speakers in a convertible could take a look for us.

Maybe we should have looked in the Vert Section as it is right here on this site (Got to love this site). Here is link with the actual picture and showing 4/4 Ohms on the back of the speaker. Just trying to avoid misinformation being sent to others.

I updated the thread to show that even though the schematics list 2-ohm woofers, the speakers are actually 4-ohm. Thanks for the information.

Hey Whitebird, I just had someone ask about replacing steering wheel control audio LED's. Any possibility of a writeup? By the looks of it, it appears pretty complicated.

Soldering, etc.
