Default Fuse question???

I am running a main power wire from my battery to a distribution block under the dash. I will be using the distribution block to run my dual stage nitrous, trans brake, raptor shift light, line lock, purge, temp gauge...basically anything that I will be powering from now on. My question is, what size fuse do I need to use in the main line? I have an in line fuse holder that will take a 30amp max fuse lying around. Thanks

it depends on the size of the wire.

One more question. If I run the main line from the battery to my distribution block what will keep everything from running the battery down? That will give everything power constantly. Do I need to go ahead and install a battery disconnect or just put some other kind of switch in line? This is on a race car by the way.
