My eDi/JL system buildup

My eDi/JL system buildup
Hey everyone,
I have been pondering doing a system for quite some time now. Slowly, I have been picking things up to gather all the pieces needed to make up what I want in my car. Below is a teaser pic of what is to come in the next month or so.
System specs:
Kenwood Excelon KDC-X679 head unit
eDi 6000s v.2 Component speakers
eDi Nine.2- 2-channel amp
eDi Nine.1- mono amp
JL Audio 10w6-v2 Dual 4-ohm voice coil sub
Subthump driver side stealth enclosure
Subthump standard amp rack
Tsunami/Stinger/eDi wiring
My goal with all of this is to have a quality sounding system. I'm not looking to rattle my windows out, or enter any Db competitions. I play guitar and love music. This will be my first "serious" system. I have had other systems in other vehicles I have owned (Jeep Cherokee, K5 Blazer). Once I gather all meterials, I will add pics and what not of the buildup. Should be nice in the end. I can't wait.
Enjoy
Andy
Update 02/09/08: Subthump sub enclosure and amp rack in yesterday. Test fitting.
Update 02/17/08:
Well I got the majority of the stuff installed today. The amp rack mounting and sub enclosure were a tight fit but worked. It took a few more trips to the store to get some terminals and misc stuff. I am still waiting on my ANL fuse holder which should be in tomm. Then I need to re-fabricate some door speaker rings to house the 6000s components. Then I can put the test tone CD in and tune away!
Here is the final product:
Update 02/19/08:
Well I got everything tuned. My ears are ringing a bit from sitting in my driveway with the system turned up. It sounds incredible. I ended up fussing with some of the HU controls to get things to sound together and have a complete sound stage. Overall I am happy with it so far. I guess time will tell as I get used to it and fine tune.

Some nice stuff there..
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...hp?series_id=6
JL says the recommended volume for the 10W6 is .625 ft3, which he could easily get with a little bit of polyfill.
These 3 shared a total of 2.0 ft3, minus driver displacement, and this system consistently received VERY high SQ marks at the comps, usually lacking just a bit of mid-bass. These were 10W6's circa late 90's.

I'm no overly concerned with the sub being a problem. I will agree its not the "best" choice for a stealth box BUT I did get the sub dirt cheap off a good friend of mine. That's why I am using it. It should work well.

Hey, I'm just going to throw an idea out there for if you have any extra cash at some point. With your current setup, you can wire that sub (that needs 600 watts) down to 2 ohms @ 900 watts; but if you got another one, along with another stealth box, you could wire them to 1 ohm @ 1200 watts giving them 600 each Sounds like fun to me!

with that SQ type setup your missing the most important part;
sound deadening. you dont need to do every nook and cranny in the car but some in the trunk and def. in the doors is essential.

I ordered the enclosure and amp rack today. Install should be under way in a week or two. Pics of progress to follow.

your speakers will likely create resonance in your doors and that creates distortion to your ears.. also CAN harm the speakers. It will sound better by making everything much more clear sounding and with greater midbass. It also helps in reducing road noise. Read up my friend:

i've used second skin, dynamat and rammatt. best all throughout is second skin but for the money is rammatt.

as far as doors go... i would do ATLEAST one layer on the inside part of the door. and another on the outside part that is layed ontop of the door panel. i'll get you pictures of how it should look..
