Default Replacement factory speakers

Ok so I was reading this thread here: http://www.z28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64468

where it says to buy 2ohm infinity kappa 62.7i speakers to replace the factory set thats in my car now.

I went and bought infinity kappa 62.9i speakers which is the model revision and removed my stock blown speakers and looked on the back of the speaker and it says 4ohm! WTF

Should I return the infiniti's and get a standard 4ohm speaker instead or is this right?

What model car do you have, what sound system (Monsoon or base), and which speakers are you replacing?

Which speakers are you replacing (doors, sail panels, or hatch area)? And why would you use Z28.com to get information for a WS.6? (Camaros and Firebirds have different sound system configurations).

As 2002Z28Camaro pointed out, the Monsoon FAQ sticky has a complete list of all the speaker sizes and types for each of the different f-body models. Assuming you have a coupe:

The two door mids and two hatch mids account for four of the eight channels of the amp while the DVC subs account for two channels each to make up the other four channels. This leaves the front and rear tweeters to be powered directly by the head unit.

Other than GM factory replacements, we have only found two models of speakers that are good replacements for Firebird sail panels. This is because 6.5" dual voice coil subs aren't very commonly used. The two models are the eD 7kv.2 (formerly EU-700) and the Bazooka RS604DVC. I don't think Best Buy carries either one. Kee Audio has the Bazookas and they mount just like stock. The eDs are a little deeper and require a spacer for mounting.

You can put single voice coil 6.5" 4-ohm subs in the sail panels but you will be giving up half the available power.

Not really. You could use them but they wouldn't sound very good. (Reminds me of Crocodile Dundee, "you could live on it but it tastes like ****".)

The sail panels get only lows (bass) because the Monsoon amp filters the signal. Putting in 2-way speakers won't give you great bass response (because 2-way speakers - especially inexpensive ones - are a compromise design) and the tweeters wouldn't do anything. You'd probably be better off with factory replacements.

Besides...I'm pretty sure Kee Audio can set you up with Bazookas in that same price range (depending on how much your employee discount is).

Those would not work properly as stated above. If your limited on funds and want something that is at least close I do have the CDT CL-6E which is the same midbass driver used in the CL-61 component set. I got a special buy on them last month and can get you a pair of those for $79.00/pair. These are 4ohm drivers but they are at least a midbass that comes close and they would work ok, heck of alot better then those Sony marine speakers.

What about the MA Audio you carry, are they as good as the Bazookas?

They are about the same. The main difference is single voice coil vs. dual voice coil. The MA Audios are a decent woofer and well constructed.
