Default Wire HU power to harness or to battery?

I'm installing my alpine CDA-9887 and I'm wondering is there any benefit to running power to it straight from the battery/or dist block? Or is the 12v at the harness enough? I noticed the power and ground wires on the alpine harness are bigger guage than the rest of the wires. The manual says 12v+ connect to battery and ground connect directy to good chassis ground. In a week or two I will be installing my amps so it won't be powering anything but the RCAs.

Well, the one big advantage of using the harness is that the deck will shut off when you get out of the car - you won't have to remember to turn it off all the time. The factory power supply through the harness is certainly sufficient for any head unit I've ever seen so why go to the extra trouble of running additional wiring to the battery?
