Twin turbo Monte Carlo vs Beans GSXR750
Met up with a local guy yesterday with a twin 70MM monte carlo. Old school solid roller 374ci SBC, blow through carb, distributor, etc. TKO600/Dana 60, meth injection instead of an intercooler, big brakes on all 4 corners, proper street car.
Made 600whp on a mustang dyno on 6psi (about 640 on the local dynojets), and in kill mode made 1200+hp on an engine dyno at 15psi. We raced at 6psi, his lowest setting.
We tried several low rolls but between traffic, cops, cold weather (no traction) etc there was one problem or another on every single attempt at a 40-45 roll.
The one decent run we did get was a 65-150. I pulled about 2 bike lengths 65-110, where he stopped my pull. By 140 he was passing me, and 150 he was ahead and leaving me hard.
Sick car, owner was really cool. Not sure if he's a member here or not, but several local members know him.
On a clean 40 roll i'd be tough for him to catch before 160+mph, but then again all he has to do is add 2 psi and he's got me from any speed. Unfortunately yesterday it was 50 degrees out (which is warm considering the weather lately) so the car just wasn't really hooking in 2nd gear.
We'll have to do some more runs in the spring.

How would you place the cars youve raced in order of fastest to slowest?
Edit... for the ls1techers.... his motor made 560hp on the engine dyno.... NA....with 8.5:1 compression...and a boost cam. Who says sbcs cant make power NA.

It seems to have a proper suspension/tire setup on a prepped surface (not sure how it would hook in kill mode), but on a cold highway it's asking a lot to put down mid 600s with a manual trans.
A high roll (75+) the monte is the fastest on pump gas/meth.
From 40 it's probably the CTS-V because of the monte's turbo lag and clutch issue. If the monte can be brake boosted and shifted without losing grip...well that'll be something to see.
I haven't seen the 76mm cobra or the 67mm rx7 on race gas, but from what i've seen on pump & meth neither are near me from a lower roll. The Monte has the potential if it hooks, can be shifted, and is brake boosted.

Agreed! Those Monte Carlo SS cars seemed to be the last model that old school SBC guys really got into. Guys after those old schoolers were all into the newer stuff. Nice to see one of them rolling out again.
Hopefully better then this stick shift catastrophe:

Bam bams vette is the baddest m6 c6 out there.... It's not set up for the 1/4 and that track prep wasn't quite up to par from what I heard about..I give the guy props for trying.. Just need more seat time behind that monster..

He used to build cars for a living...knows what he's doing. His setup is simple, and very effective.
He seems to be a very good driver. I think he has the 2nd fastest pass for a stock 5th gen camaro (his daily driver).
1200hp with a stick shift is a handful for anyone. That vette driver didn't seem to have a clue.
