Default 07 mustang gt vs 08 g8 gt

So a friend of mine wants to race on the cold ohio street from a dig for $500. My g8 gt is bone stock and his 4.6l mustang is a 5 speed and has 4:11 gears, CAI, exhaust and a tune. Do I race him or not?

I wouldn't race him for that much money. You could very well lose. If he's a good driver.

I would say he is a decent driver. Best I have seen him run at the track was a 13.8 with a 2.0 60ft.

Depends how well you each get out of the hole. Sounds like he's pretty confident, so he might have traction (slicks/DRs).

He ran a best of 13.8 with all of those mods? Do you know what the trap speed was?

I don't want to race but he wont shut up. If I can take $500 of his money I will feel happy. He doesn't have slicks just all season tires, and yes he ran 13.7 @ 109 and he thinks my car stock runs 14.50's

If you race him, get some drag radials first. And heat them up as much as possible. Then I'd say you'll more than likely beat him in the 1/4.

And he doesn't sound like a good driver if he runs high 13s with a 109 trap speed haha. He should be in the 12s easy.

^^^ this lol. I'd go get a set of dr's for less than 500 bucks. Plus side is when you win you'll have paid nothing for the tires and be able to use hem for the track/other races. Without dr's its a tricky thing the cars are close enough where you could very well lose.

This is what I'm worried about. I've launched my car just playing around before and it feels like it moves out for being stock and I don't feel it spinning at all. I figured the odds would be in my favor since like said before it's 0 degrees out and he has street tires and manual transmission.

If traction and drivers are equal I see the Mustang having a slight edge. Consider it has better gearing, about 300 lbs lighter, and probably only about 20 hp less with his mods

Car and driver says that's about right. It says 13.6 @103 I just didn't know how accurate that was.

What have you run at the track in the G8 GT?

12s, I don't believe. I believe with a 2.0 60 and a 13.8, he should be around mid 13s. I've seen bolton GT CS cars from that gen run high 14s no less in 1600 DA

500, you better be confident you're ready to take his money. Doesn't sound like it. Why not negotiate it down to 100 and go try your luck?

Where the hell can you find a good set of DR for under 500?! LOL

G8 GT should be high 13s @ about 101mph stock from what I've seen. I don't think you have him covered. There's a strong chance you can lose.

Bought the car in december as my daily to replace my 99 GTP. So no times yet.

I've thought about this.

You would have to change rim size to find DR under $500

Afraid your right.

If he wants to race for $500 chances are he's hiding something, like a 100 shot. Either that or he's got $ to burn. If I were you I'd get at least a 125 shot and not tell him. (Make sure it's hidden well) Street racing, nobody wants to lose.

My old 07 auto 331 geared car went 13.0 at 106 with tune exhaust (no headers)and a bama tune. Slow as f--k but if you are still stock should be a good run.
