4th gen vs 6th gen
On the way home this evening, in Mexico, I ran into a nice black 6th gen SS automatic car. Guy said it was bone stock and that he was loving it! I initiated the fight when I buzzed the tower a bit.
He came back up to me slowly and caught me cruising in 5th gear at about 40 or so. He caught me off guard a bit when he started honking really quickly and i rapidly downshifted to 2nd and matched his pull until 90 or so. I didnt pass him but I kept him from pulling for the short time we were able to stay in it. Maybe would have passed if we kept going.
We slowed down again and got a more even start. He started to pull on me for a split second and then I pulled ahead and got my nose out front of him, then had to slow down for a red light from 110 or so.
We lined up for the last time at the read light for a dig. I was expecting to lose the dig since it was an 8-speed car. I dumped the clutch at about 3100 or so and my 315 NT555's struggled for traction through first as i feathered it and hooked in 2nd. I got about a car on him through what Ill call about 1/8th mile (about 90+ MPH or so into third gear).
My car just got put back together and has a valve seal leak (smoking bad and waiting on new seals to come in) and made 413 on a stingy dyno. I was really surprised that I got him in, what I would call, an 1/8th mile or so. I never got to get into where my car has legs (100+ or so) but I am proud of my old 4th gen. My cam really comes on over 5000 or so and I was happy to have gotten an auto car.

Any ideas what my setup is capable of in the 1/4? Ran 12.52 @ 117.6 with a 2.3 60' with a 228r in a LS1

As far as your 1/4 mile goes, could be anywhere around the 11s. Depends on a lot of things, a better 60, how well you know the car etc. Hope you get the oil consumption issue fixed first.

Yeah he got the jump on the first one. Those 8-speeds shift fast! Had to nail my shifts! Even though he got the jump I think I could've passed him if we kept going. Also had my driver t top out lol but it's whatever.

If you do not have a good 60ft, get ready for a disappointing day at the track.

So was this outcome to be expected or is it abnormal? And do you guys think if we kept going I'd keep pulling or do you think he would've caught up or what?

This is NOT meant at you wilson as I have no idea good or bad on how you drive. Just throwing this out there for the guys that might not actually know what "The Driver Mod" means:
(1) not letting the other guy get the jump.
(2) being in the right gear and RPM to be in the meat of your powerband when you start the race.
(3) Using All Available Traction ('profoundly deep those 4 words are' says Yoda)
(4) hitting your shift points perfectly.
(5) if stick shift, being able to nail the shifts damn near as fast as a automatic tranny. Yes, even the 2-3 and 4-5 shift.

The 6th gens haven't been out enough for guys to be comfortable making that call - on top of the fact that custom builds like yours have such a wide variance in how they run. Alot of guys on here (guess I'm in this category) are no doubt thinking you should have put a car length on him IF your setup was both running properly and you have what we call "the driver mod".

Yeah I would agree. I was totally taken by surprise as it was an old guy that I wasn't expecting to speed honk on me lol! but Good point nonetheless.
