my TA vs friends 05 GTO
so last night i met up with my buddy who just got his 05 gto a few weeks ago. black on black-red interior. the car is gorgeous by the way, 1,xxx miles.
anyway so we hop onto the highway and the first race starts at 75mph, we go from the honk and we both jump and start dead even. him in 3rd and me in 4th. and run all the way up to 150(yeah i know....i dont do this often but it was necessary in this case to prove my point. ) at 150 he is about 2 and a half car lengths back. one for the TA
next we run from 60 with me gettin the jump, at 110 at the end of 4th when i let go he was 2 cars back.
next run again from 60 with him gettin the jump. he gets half a car from the go and i real him back in for almost a car length at 110.
so we get a few runs from a dig in. i dont think he really knew how to launch his car yet but he needed to practice, from a stop we both got off the line dead even all 3 times. with 2 of the times me commin out a car length ahead at 70( had to cut it short cause of road length. ) except once when he grinded the **** out of second
anyway im pretty impressed at my car it seems to be running very well. for only haveing a lid and free mods. stock exhaust =]

I believe the top speed completely stock for an LS1 is 161. Dont remember where I read that though.

Me and a buddy (headers and exhaust) ran an 05 and he was able to pull on it pretty good. I raced the GTO and I'm cammed. I let him get a big jump though

That's...odd. I expected the LS2 to be stronger than that. The 00 TA didn't have the ls6 intake, right? If so, he should be a legitimate 30-40hp stronger than you even with the free mods and lid.. unless you have a freak or he has a dog (Trust me I know about having a dog engine).
I have no hard data on what kind of aerodynamics either car has, but just by eyeballing it i certainly wouldn't think the TA would have much of an advantage. It's a bit shorter than the goat, but the front end isn't very smooth (lots of ripples and foglights). I suppose it could be driver error, is he shifting too soon? too late?

i only listed the highlight races, every race one way or the other i pulled on him, he knows how to put it to the redline and shift on the highway, but gear for gear against his i was able to noticably pull on him. my car runs real strong for the mods it has.
the ls6 intake would make nary a dif on my car for the money. there is more power to be found elsewhere at this point. i mean it is designed for a .050 higher gross lift cam. so i just cant justify the $300 for 5whp with my current setup.

Nice kills
But I can see why some are skeptical. The 05' is supposed to be 400HP and should do equal or better than a stock LS1 F-Body. However, with your mods and the GTO only having 1,xxx miles on it I think your runs are feasible. I only wonder how the GTO would fair after 5,000 more miles and same set ups on both cars. That is assuming the GTO needs to be broken in.

Yeah, I'm not doubting the outcome is the truth, and looking at my sig it should be obvious I'm not hating on TAs, heh... I'm just wondering why it happened like that. By all accounts the 05 should have pulled on you. I'm guessing you got one of the stronger LS1s, and That GTO got one of the weaker ls2s ("weak" being a relative word in this case... as even a "weak" ls2 owns 97% of what's out there on the road without much effort, stock for stock)
Honestly, considering the LS2 is essentially a stroked LS1 with LS6 heads, modified LS6 intake (tuned towards volume instead of velocity), and (original) LS6 camshaft... I can't imagine how it isn't making even more than 400hp. I have a feeling the cars are probably an exhaust and cam swap away from 425rwhp or so... I sure hope so, The aftermarket is attacking the new 05 mustang with a vengence. heh. We need something to represent until the camaro returns (along with the GTO redesign) in 07.

the books say an 05 GTO will do between 13.1-13.3 @ 108
others on the track have run 12.7-12.9 @ 109mph, unless driver error, the GTO should have walked away from you...

I've gone to the track numerous times with the 05's. They have serious wheel hop and have posting 13.6-13.8's. YES THESE ARE JUST THE ONE'S I'VE SEEN, AND UNDERSTNAD DRIVER ABILITY.
However I've raced one comming back from the track and had a consistent car lenght on um. My SS dyno's 360/360. I just wish I could have thier interior and a little dind-ding to tell me I'm over 70 LOL
