Guys lets get back to the original topic of this thread. The original post was not about how to drive a new car but just to let fellow LS1 owners know about the competition that will be lurking the streets. A heads up.

I was the sales manager that was out with baddogz on the original test drive. Although the Mustang Mach 1's styling cues are second to none(shaker hood, old style interior, gauges, wheels, striping, metal emblems, etc)the fact of the matter is that the Mustang simply just cant hang with the LS1.

People that are participating in this thread and judging how another member drives whom they have never met should hear the facts first. I also have driven this car.(a little hard) I for one own several muscle cars and my father has a 2001 Camaro SS 6-speed. I have had a total of 3 Mustangs as my daily demonstrator drivers, loging a total of 19,000 on the three cars and two of those were stick. As far as not being familiar with the handling of a Mustang that is simply not an issue. I agree with baddogs opinion about the tourqe curve, the "flat spot" that you feel in it's power band, and its difficulty to shift. I would consider him the best aggressive driver (for his age) that I have ever driven with.

As far as the silly issue of beating on the car. Where are you guys at!? You are on an LS1 tech forum, not to mention that you are in the "street racing and kill stories" section!!! You are not in the female knitting section! Yes the car was driven hard, yes it only had 7 miles on it originally, but it was sitting there looking pretty and was begging for a beating! The extent of this beating is probably not as severe as it seems. It consisted of about 3-4 total miles between the two of us. As far as us being a dealer that mistreats their cars that is im sorry to say "par for the course". Im sure that most of you bought your cars used with lets say 20, 30, or 40 thousand miles on them. How do you think they were driven all of those miles? Sorry the car was driven hard but when would the opportinity have come up for us to have tested another one? Im sorry but owning a Ford muscle car is just not a possibility for me. I bleed Chevy Bowties.

baddogz28,

why don't you just get a job at a GM dealership?

Money is money- I don't care wher it comes from. Plus, I work with a lot of friends. Just b/c I drive an LS1, doesn't mean I hate Fords, it just means that I believe the F-Body is a superior car to the mustang. Chevy truck or Ford? Ford. Taurus or Impala? Taurus. Just a couple of examples. A couple questions for you:

1. Why do you care where I work?
2. Why do you frequent an LS1 forum if you don't like/don't have an LS1 powered car? You don't see me on a mustang or Ford forum just to bust *****... Not that anybody does that sort of thing.

I just don't think I could sell a car that I did not like, but I guess money is money like you said. I am on here because I love fast cars, and I am fully aware that LS1's are fast cars. In addition, there is a great deal of car talk that goes on, and I like to tap into that. Finally, its good to see you like Ford trucks, I think they are badass too. A couple of questions since you work at a Ford dealer:
1) Why in the hell did Ford abandon the SVT Contour for the SVT Focus?
2) Now that they are pushing the SVT Focus I have heard they are going to be bringing over a Rally edition that is turbo-charged or something like that. True?
3) I visit SVT websites and know a good deal about SVT's, but are there any other plans that you might know of to bring out another SVT vehicle that is actually being seriously considered?

You cant trust the dealerships. My old man took his thunderbird in for some warranty work. It was interior related. He kept track of the mileage when he brought it in, and when he gets it back turns out they put on 150 miles. So my old man is wtf and talks to the service mananger and they give him some bs about having to test drive the car to make sure everythings ok.

You have to expect that **** from dealerships. Its not that big of deal. The problem is when you got a manual trans. Then they might try and powershift it and put some serious wear and tear on the synchros. ****** scumbags.

STANG, Sorry about the "dick" post I just made... On this thread, I've been used to people being dicks to me... I took your post the wrong way. As far as why the SVT contour got replaced: It was just b/c Ford had so many quality control issues to address with the Contour, they had to discontinue the car, and the SVT with it. The focus is a much better car as far as build quality is concerned, and the SVT, while not as powerful as the SVT contour, fills the "compact import-fighter" genre a little bit better b/c it is smaller and less expensive.
I don't know anything about a rally edition focus, but from what I've heard, SVT IS going to produce the GT 40 called only the GT.

Just because your father had a bad experience at that dealership doesn't mean all dealerships are like that. While 150 miles on a car seems a little shady, the dealer was not lying to you when they said that they have to road test the cars after fixing them, just like a plumber has to flush a new toilet after he installs it to make sure that everything's working correctly. And did you ever think that they might have put 15 miles on it and your dad made a mistake? Just a possibility, I'm not saying that is what happened---- but that it COULD HAVE. This whole thread has gone WAAAAAAYYYY of topic, to the point of juvenility. All I meant to do with this post is give a "scouting report" of sorts to fellow LS1 owners on the Mach 1. I had hoped this would be a more intelligent thread, and less of a pissing match over irrelevant crap. BTW, I'm not a "f@#$ing scumbag" and I don't appreciate being called one.

I think its going to come out sometime in the summer. (summer 03 - fall 03)
Since The WRX Sti, and the Evo7 lancer, Ford needs some of the action too with their rally car.
But then again, we were allowing Mazda to bring over their new rx7 like 2 yrs ago, but it never passed crash tests

As an FYI on the Mach 1's....

This link - http://www.stangnet.com/mach1/mach1run.html - talks about the 12.9 run at Commerce (yes, Commerce Ga) last spring. The driver was well-known Mustang racer Paul Svinicki.

There have been a handful of Mach 1's dyno'd now. The numbers I've seen run from a low of 268 RWHP to a high of 282 RWHP. In other words, about the same is a 01 Cobra. It does make better power in the mid range, has a bit better gearing (3.55 vs 3.27) and of course, is not saddled with the IRS.

Also...of note...none of these cars had more than a few hundred miles on them - some less. It remains to be seen if breakin mileage will make any measurable difference.

IMHO, I'd expect to see most drivers running mid-high 13's @ ~103-105 mph with these cars. In good air with a good track and a good driver, some will go quicker. Of course, the opposite is also true.

The car pulls hard until 5000 or so rpm and the torque falls off hard after that, so in a race the LS1's nice, even powerband will help the car pull away fairly easily. To find out which is faster, my friend and I took out my Z right after the Mach, and my z was easily faster.
BTW, the Mach had 7 miles on it, and was hard to shift.
Yeah a Mach does ok in 1st and 2nd then fades hard
