Well to say this I met a guy at the dyno the other day with a 383 LT1. He had a very low lift cam in it, like 520s, and some shadetree mechanic ported heads on it. I talked to him about what hes expecting to make, I had just dynoed my 408, and he was saying should be about 500 on motor. I told him noway in hell hes making anywhere near 500 on motor with that setup and he looked at me like i didnt know what I was talking about. Well low and behold what does he make?? 320 rwhp on motor and about 450 on some shot. Moral is just because its a big motor doesnt mean its going to make alot of power or run well. My 408 made more on motor than he did on spray.

Yeah I've seen that around here in some cases. People think just because they have a 383 they're making gobs of power even with small lift cam and stock heads!! There's one kid in town that's got a 455 Olds Motor that he "did" up, and he's got about the smallest cam I've ever seen a big block have. I don't think it had over .520" of lift..

its in a 97 camaro and to the people saying "it depends on what he has done to it" He told me cold air and exhaust. Does a 383 have to have a special set up or something?

a 97 camaro with a K&N and exhaust could be between 350rwhp and 1,000 rwhp. Depends on the setup.

"It all depends on the setup" means more specifically what kind of heads, how big of a cam and what compression he's running. Without knowing that, he could be making 300 rwhp on stock heads/cam, or 500 rwhp with big heads, huge cam and 13.5:1 compression. CAI and exhaust are relatively small factors in determining how much power the car is going to make.

I agree with you also. Read my post again......I wasn't quoting you, and my post had nothing to do with your post. I was trying to help aaron653 understand what was meant by the setup dictating the power gains on a 383 stroker.

LOL sorry man, my post should have read this way:

I agree. Aaron 653, read my post again. I was kind of in a hurry when I posted that and should have been more clear.
