Default Played with an SL500 the other night

Was on the parkway headed out for the evening and noticed an SL500 was up ahead so i went ahead and took a look, then kinda just kept on going. He didnt wanna hear this so he passed me, ok old man (50s-60s) wants to have fun. highway was empty so i decided to go have my fun too. Caught up to him and then watched him go faster, only to keep up with him a little behind his fender to amuse myself, then i just went WOT and walked him with ease and the look on his face was priceless. did it a few more times cause he didnt give up, and had fun. Nice buisness suit man losing to some punk kid wearing a backwards cap in a mustang, never gets old. Useless story, but amusing when it happened.

SL500 are more show than go, they're heavy rigs (~4000lbs!) pushed along by a 302hp 5.0L V8 - long legs but poor acceleration. A 14 second car.

An SL600 has a 510hp turbo V12. An even wilder version is the SL65 with a 604hp V12 that also twists out 738 lb-ft of torque.

Good kill

And I assume you are all talking about the new SL's and not the previous version. As the older SL600 was not really much faster than the older SL500.

Oh it will pull a cobra like its standing still.

I could run 11's in it while sipping a latte.

But then again, you get what you pay for. A car that expensive better be smoking fast.

She will be missed.

Pfft, my Buick v6 makes more than that at the flywheel. Then again, I'm at 27+ psi boost and only 3300#'s. Those AMG's are sick.

I know HP ratings on cars rangning from a 1989 eclipse GSX to any exotic. I know any amg car would beat mine, well, for now at least...pulley swaps sure are getting cheaper

necro and OP - from my exp with this era MB, there is a computer control system that is linked via can-bus...... which connects the switches to the end devices.... in steering wheel, dash, doors, etc.... for radio, blinkers, pwr winders, damn near everything.....

So if you yank out these wiring harnesses or computers or the can-bus system..... these systems will be inop.

I'm asking if this will be an issue for this build, or IF you just plan to run with out those features?

The OP isn't building a Mercedes he ran one, 12 YEARS ago. That's what I was confused about.

I think one4torque posted on the wrong thread. This one is linked to one currently running where an 500SL IS currently being built.
