00' SS vs 00' Z28
My friend has a 2000 SS Camaro with an A4. The question I have is what is faster. The SS or the Z28 if both are A4's? I have read that the SS has 15 more HP than a Z28. Does the hood scoop on the SS really give it a 15 Horsepower advantage?

Hood scoop is worth at least another 80HP. But then you wouldnt know 'cause you havent raced yet!
Luckily theres not a 2000 TA ram air or you would both be in trouble. The ram air is worth another 60HP above yours even though the power pasenger seat adds another 10oz of weight.

The reason why I started this thread is I cant convince my friend that has a 2000 SS coupe that the SS and Z28 both dyno the same as does the C5. I thought that by posting this thread and him reading your replys he might understand that it's a drivers race between the two. hell, even an auto vert C5 could easily fall victim to a well driven F-body.
One more question: Does the hood scoop come into play as far as giving the SS the advantage at higher speed hence a higher volume of airflow for the intake?
Thanks guys for your replys!!

I recall a post where a guy with an SS hood and a Super Sucker Ram Air (for those unfamiliar, SSRA is a plastic extension which funnels air from below - basically a mod which captures the Free Ram Air mod) used block off plates to see if he ran quicker with the SS hood only, with the SSRA open only, or with both the SSRA and the hood open.
I think the results were very slight (maybe 1 mph in the 1/4 mile, but we all know 1 mph is a range of error negligible to conclude with).
His test doesn't answer your question directly, as you're asking for SS hood vs. stock intake of air into the lid results. But, we all know every Z28 is a FRA away from freeing up its intake tract (a mod which can be done in 15 minutes).
To answer your question simply and to give it a number, I'd call it a difference of: 1 mph on a stock setup. Freeing up the path to the lid is very important once modding commences.
Edit: just earned my 7000th post.

In january of 03 I bought a brand new SS 6pd with the 345hp package.
Took it to No Problem Raceway with about 1k miles on the car. All I did was remove the filter and made two passes.
first pass was 13.4et @111mph w/ 2.360 ft bogged car of the line
2nd pass still bogged of the line 2.2sec 60ft. 13.11et @111.78mph
I was very impressed.
