Default Will this ruin rear shocks?

A few months ago (close to 3 months) I placed my Trans Am up on jackstand for the winter in the garage. Four jackstands under the frame to elevate the car, wood blocks under the front tires stopping the suspension a inch or so from the bottom of travel and a floor jack under the rearend doing the same.

Normally I would put stands under the axle tubes and call it a day, but I had intentions of getting back under the car within that week to clearance the tranny tunnel a little bit more for my torque arm... well I never did and just yesterday I noticed the floor jack was all they way to the floor and the rearend was free-haning.

Yes, I'm a dumb ***!

My question is... will the weight of the rearend hanging on the rear shocks damage them? I have no idea how long it's been this way, so lets assume the maximum time of three months.

Did I mention that I'm a dumb ***.

Thumbs up Hello

Hello,
It is really hard to say!!!!!!My Dad had 77 nova and he had it in storage over winter time on a trailer and didn't leave the slack out of the ratchet straps and it ruined the springs he had to get new front ones.......so my advise is put it back on the ground asap and see how much play is in the springs... I am not guaranteeing anything but I figure I would just throw that out there for you.
Tanks Again,
Brad

It shouldn't hurt the shocks, but I would definitely put it on the ground to double check. Depending on what kind of shocks you have, you might be able to have them reworked (if they're drag shocks).

Every winter my car sits on jack stands in some state of dis-assembly as i change/repair/maintain something with the car. The rear and the front always hang free and I've never ever had an issue with damaging any bushings, springs or shocks as a result.

I think most or pretty much all the weight is supported by the shocks at full extension anyway when the car is jacked up.

Thanks guys... just wanted to have peace of mind, those shocks were not cheap and I cringed at the thought of replacing them due to my own stupidity.

My S60 rear is one heavy bitch, if it doesn't ruin them with all it's extra weight... nothing will.

No it wont ruin your shocks, Having the suspension this way is ok and if you want to go the extra mile you can wipe down the chrome on the shocks with Hydraulic fluid and keep the tires off any pavement/concrete, to prevent flat spots. And also a fuel stabilizer, fresh oil.
