Lots of shaft rubbing after UMI install
I finished installing a UMI k-member with a new set of poly mounts and now my steering shaft rubs against my stock exhaust pipe.
Will I have to grind down the steering shaft where it rubs? I've already tried playing with adjustments but to no avail.
Will a set of long tubes correct this?

Hey:
Do you really want pics? You know they have web sites for that, I just thought he really, really, liked his UMI K member, The title cracked me up....
On a more serious note, try slotting the holes that hold the steering shaft on the firewall, towards the passenger side, that should allow enough articulation to let it clear.
With some long tubes this becomes worse, as many are larger diameter tubes than stock(any that are worth putting on), or no real performance gain is had.

Hello,
It is most likely the polyurethane mounts changing the engine height, which they can do. I have never seen a shaft rub the stock manifolds but it would be my guess. Also make sure the mounts were installed correctly and not upside down. The mounts are offset and if I remember correctly can be installed upside down... it has been awhile since I have done a set.

Checked orientation on the mounts and they are fine. Looks like my luck was at play here and between the k-member and the new mounts it lifted it just enough to barely rub on the steering shaft.
If nothing else it was a convenient excuse to get the wife to let me buy that dremel I wanted to grind it down.
So a little grinding on the steering, some black paint, and a quick run around the block and it is gone.
