Default Opinions on Hotchkis springs for 98-02 F-body

I've searched and found a few pics of Hotchkis springs installed but I haven't really seen any reviews of comfort/clearance. I'm ordering some Bilstein HD'S from Strano very soon and I have some Hotchkis springs my buddy gave me for free and was thinking about trying them out but I was curious to hear how satisfied Hotchkis owners were. Thanks guys.

They aren't the best, they aren't the worst. They are a pain to install because of how they are wound, getting a spring compressor on and off them is a nightmare. They are heavy because of the progressive windings... that adds a lot of mass to the spring. I don't feel they are quite firm enough for the amount of drop so the ride can be good on ride roads, but when you start working them you get a bigger spike in wheel rate when you contact the bumpstops, which is abrupt--and what folks feel when the complain the "bottom out". And BTW, I still sell them, so it's not like I'm super anti-Hotchkis either....

All in all, you could do better, you could do much worse. Free is free. Me, I'd say sell them and buy something better.

I wanted some of your springs Mr. Strano but I didn't want my car to drop too much. I'm over 350lbs and I don't know how much my weight will affect my speed bump clearance. Any thoughts? Thanks!

You are assuming there would be a huge difference... there won't be. My springs are a touch lower, about 1/4" than Hotchkis on average.... but mine are also stiffer, which means the car will not drop as much as you add weight. In the end, you're talking about a wash, and my springs have firmer rates to help support the mass.

And if makes you feel better, I'm not exactly 5'4" and 130 pounds. I'm 6'1"/290.

That's what I wanted to hear Sam. I'm just waiting on my taxes and I'll call you to place my order. Also, I need some of your bumpstops and the correct Bilsteins. I don't know the difference between the standards and the HD's. Thanks again Mr. Strano.

Between the SLP's and the HD's, there's very little difference. Get the one that's cheaper (SLP's)

And if your going with Sam's springs, I'll buy the Hotchkis if your interested in selling. Been looking at a new set anyways. If interested, send me a pm. Just thought I'd throw that out there..
