Shock shaft hitting car
I have a loud clunk coming from the front passenger side of my car after my shock install. I have driven on it for a while but can't stand it anymore. I read a common problem for this is people not tightening the nut on top enough, so I went back to check it and I was able to tighten the nut down quite a bit more. I thought I fixed my problem but it turns out the clunk is still there. I noticed when I had the shock assembly out that the top of my shock shaft Is hitting the car, so this has to be where the noise is coming from. Anyway, so what would cause the top of the shock to be hitting the car.

Did you reinstall the shock bumpstop? What shocks are these? On Bilsteins, you need to reuse the stock bumpstop if in good condition or buy a replacement...
Also, what shock mounts are you using? I have not found anything as good as the OEM ones when you compare them side by side...

Is there anyway you can post a picture up of where the shock is hitting the car?

It's been four months and I still have not fixed this problem. Wow I must not love my car anymore. Anyway it is literally the top shaft of the shock is hitting my car every time I go over a bump. If you were to take the whole strut assembly out it is literally the very top part of the whole thing. The very top of the shaft is all wore down from bouncing up and hitting my car. Just trying to figure out what would cause this.

This is where the shaft is hitting my car.
This is my temporary fix by just cutting the shaft down a lil bit.
I took the car for a test drive and now it seems to only make a noise when hitting big bumps. I'm guessing I just need to buy all new rubber pieces next shock install.
