Default Installing S60 & Adj. Torque Arm. Just checking if Pinion Angle can be set this way.

So I have an odd question. I'll be installing an S60 rearend in a few weeks and will also be installing a UMI adjustable torque arm. I will have the front end on jack stands and the rear wheels resting on drive up ramps, and since I do not have a drive on lift to set the pinion angle;

Will I be able to accurately set the pinion angle if ONLY the rearend is under load and the front end is level, but being supported on jack stands?

In theory, it feels like I can but I wanted everyone's opinion, thanks!

The front doesn't necessarily need to be loaded. The rear end needs to be under load for sure.

Yes. Only thing that matters is that the rear suspension is loaded. Doesn't matter what angle the car itself is at either. Just compare driveline angle to actual pinion angle. Driveshaft angle is irrelevant.

okay, thanks for clarifying! This will be my first time setting pinion angle and using an angle finder. I know my pinion angle should be -2 but where exactly should I be placing my angle finder? Thanks for the responses UMI & BMR!

If you have a smartphone download "Tremec Tool Box" to assist your pinion angle set up. Otherwise we sell an inexpensive angle finder like what you would find at most hardware stores.

Okay, I'll check out the tremec thing but I have an angle finder, just curious as to where I place it if not on the Driveshaft

I'm sorry about that, I completely misread that post. You want to place it on the bearing caps for a more accurate reading. Pinion angle is commonly "over-thought" on the boards here. It's not uncommon for us to set a car up and be so excited to drive it that we set the pinion angle after the first test drive. Also, every car reacts differently. No one set pinion angle will be perfect for every F-body. The 1-2 degrees is a good frame to aim towards.

The easiest places that I like to use that seem to be pretty accurate are the crank pulley/balancer in the front and the torque arm mount on the rear where it bolts to the axle

Thank you guys, much appreciated! My last car had all BMR and my current car is all UMI but both companies are solid as a rock!
