Power steering after LT1 swap out
So I've swapped out my LT1 for a gen 1 SBC. I'm only running a water pump alternator and power steering and planning on using a conventional v belt set up. My questions are, what PSI and flow does a lt1 rack need/want to operate. Followed up with what does a GM pump from a 71 c10 put out and how would I make them jive? I have the "type 2" pump that was on the lt1, can I pull the valve out of it and place it into my v belt pump I already have, make up the appropriate high PSI lines and call it good? I've searched and found plenty of info on LS pumps and mustang 2 racks, but nothing dealing with what I've got.

The LT1 Camaro factory flow rate would be 2.7 - 3.1 gpm and the factory pressure would be 1200-1300psi. The Saginaw "P" pump that you have on your SBC would have been roughly 3gpm and, as long as it is functioning properly, should produce roughly 1200psi. I would recommend trying it the way it is, and if modifications are needed, we sell a flow restrictor for the Saginaw "P" pump so you can fine tune your steering feel.

Ok cool deal, thanks for responding. I did in fact do that. Built up a high pressure line from pieces of both the truck and the car and hooked it up. I unbolted the pump from truck project and tossed it on the car with only cleaning out all the old fluid. Haven't been able to drive the car much, just around the block since I don't have exhaust on it yet. Once I get that taken care of I'll see how it feels and reach out if I think it seems to twitchy.
