Question bump stops?

well this might be a stupid question but do i need aftermarket bumpstops since my car is lowered?

Some cars (like ones that came w/ 17" rims?) have a
shim which can be removed for a little more clearance.
But the bump stop is protecting not only the tires but
the shocks as well (do -not- want to bottom them out
and bend something, etc.). I know there has been some
discussion here about it and you can probably dig up a
lot more detail about options (there are at least two
different bump stop part types) and whether to mess
with it given what configuration you've got.
