Default Suspension Question 02 Trans Am

Hello,

My father owns a 2002 TRans Am WS6. He keeps pestering me about this question

Is it possible to put a Corvette suspension in 02 Trans Am if not. Is it possible to put a Independent suspension?

Thank You
Tilly

Most will say anything is possible with enough money, but there are no kits (that I know of)for f-body to corvette suspension if thats what your asking.
But there are some great suspension mods out there, check the side of the website for the sponsor links. >>> Make sure to stop buy stranoparts, that guy is supposed to be a suspension guru for fbods.
IRS has been done to f-bodies before, but its much cheaper and easier to just upgrade the rear suspension.
Heres a link to C4 IRS on a Fbody I just googled: http://www.fbodymotorsports.com/jay_s_94_formula

man I looked at that link, man that dude has a really nice exhaust set up and the rear end.

As for the original question, why would you want an IRS? are you going to be doing some road racing or SCCA maybe?

If you want it just for cool factor or even drag racing, I would suggest going to a 12 bolt or even GASP a 9inch. But really I wouldnt know why you would want to go with a IRS, like said above, the rear suspension is beefed up really easily.

Tell him to sell his current car and get a Vette. It will be cheaper in long run and no headaches involved. You can find decent priced C5 Vettes these days.

My father is 6'7. And I dont think he would be able to fit in a vette. He barely fits in the f-body.

Good tires, Koni adjustables, and Strano's swaybars. I have this setup and can take the circle entrance/exit ramps doing 60+ and can probably go faster (scared to push it harder and fly off in a pond or such).

Koni SAs, Strano f/r swaybars and Strano springs makes these cars handle like you cannot believe. Took mine with this setup to Road Atlanta. With zero driving experience, I threw my car into turns at 75 mph and it never broke loose, never lost control, never got away from me. Could have gone much faster if not for the pacer car or the slow assed Porsche 911 in front of me. Then drove it 4 hrs home. It is a great combo!

Hey thanks or the help. I'll relay this information to my father and see what he wants to do.

The manerisms between a Corvette and an F-body will forever be different and the vette will always have better ride quality. BUT you can make the F-body handle very very well, i.e. pull 1.0g on the skidpad which is some great road holding.
