Default Any tricks to getting sway U-bolts in?

I just finished installing my new 12 bolt rear, well everything but the sway bar. I can't seem to get the u-bolts to go on over the axle AND get the ends of the bolts to go through the welded on sway bar bracket on the rear. Is there a trick to doing this?

that's what I thought, but the stock ones fit through the already welded in bracket that came on the rear-end. The problem was, I could get the ubolt over, just not in the holes. What I ended up doing was: since the bracket was already welded to the rear (not just tacked), I just used 5/16" grade 8 bolts with lock washers to hold the sway bar bushing to the axle. Not sure if this is kosher, but since the bushing only needs to move/lift with the axle ,the bolts just need to keep the sway attached to the axle and for that it should matter if they're u-bolts or ordinary hex bolts.
