Default Steering Issues - Help!

I was having a lot of play in my steering wheel and figured that the rod ends were screwed. Bought a new (to me) steering rack with about 50K miles on it and the guy said it was in good working condition (I trust that he was truthful about this). It sat in my garage for a couple months and I decided I need to get it in.

Get the new rack in and the steering is worse than before. The car wants to hunt on the road and dart back and forth. The play in the wheel is gone, but it is hardly safe to drive.

I asked a friend/GM tech and he mentioned a steering speed sensor on a lot of GM vehicles. Short of this being somewhere under the dash... I have no idea if we even have one (I tend to believe not).

Anyone have any ideas? I tried bleeding the system last night and that helped quite a bit, but it's still pretty scary to drive.

ugh.
