Default replacing high pressure hose on ps pump

well today my car started to leak massive amounts of power steering fluid. It looks to be coming from the high pressure hose.

My question is do you have to pull the power steering pump pulley to get the hose out? Or can you work around the pulley?

If anyone has any tips to make this easier i'm open to suggestions.

looks like this might have been better under "maintenance and repairs". I was in a hurry and didnt pay enough attention. Oh well.

No it will come out, just twist and turn it enough and you'll get it.

You can get it off with the pulley on but its much easier with the pulley off, and pulling the pulley off is a lot easier than you think. Just get a pulley remover from Autozone and either pull it off or part of the way off. If you dont pull the pulley it is a real bitch to get to the nut on the high pressure line.

Is the line itself leaking or is it leaking around where the line screws into the pump or the rack? It may just be an o-ring.

you can get it out w/o removing the pulley. and the lower fitting is somewhat difficult because there isnt much room to tighten the fitting on the rack. i used a 15mm wrench that i cut in half....it's actually been a very handy wrench, lol.

fyi, that high pressure hose from gm is about $100....ask me how i know...thanks to people who think camaros need to be drag cars and dont need p/s

thanks guys. I was able to get it changed out in about 20 minutes with the pulley on. But damn it sure would have been easier with the pulley off! I got the line from O'Reillys for ~$30. The stealership quoted me $127!

If it's the same line that my serpentine belt chewed a hole in, then I loved my crowfoot wrenches that day, and so would you.
