new project
I have always loved the late 40's early 50's model chevy trucks.
Looked at getting one when I was in high school but couldn't afford to deal with it being down or fixing it up.
I am on the market again for an old school truck and wanted yalls input.
I made this post on HPD as well but wanted to see what the "tech" side of it could bring on what I plan on doing.
I am looking for a truck that is already in good shape. (not excellent).
Motor and trans is not a big deal as I already have plans on what to replace those with.
Here are a few trucks I found
Prices range from $7500 - $35000 (running) depending on what is redone on them.
I sent this guy an email waiting to hear back from him on this clean 1950 3100.
He is asking a decent price for it and has done a hell of a job with it.
Here are a few others I found:
$8000.00obo
http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/1009376196.html
$17000 obo
http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/1033164111.html
$5200 obo (needs motor and trans!)
http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/1044200561.html
The plan is to do an LS7 swap and try to do a T6060 setup on it.
I know alot of factors come into play here. This is where I want your opinions.
- Has anyone heard of anyone doing a late model LS motor in these things?
- Would a T6060 even work with this truck or would there have to be to much fabrication its not worth the trouble?
- What rearend would anyone recommend putting in this truck to withstand the LS7?
- Is it hard to hook up air cond. (yes this is Texas) on these trucks? I have noticed a few that I found have this mod done to them already.
Thanks
G

Id probably put a 9'' under there or even a 12 bolt. I dont see why an LS swap would be that hard. maybe need a little fab work on some motor mounts?
Please school me but whats a T6060?
Nice looking truck i must say!

Enlighten me, what is a T6060? The ls7 wouldnt be too hard to do. If you found a truck that had the camaro subframe under it you could use the parts to bolt a ls motor into a camaro with conversion headers. The hardest part is the wiring, but there are some many companies that have harnesses available. Look in the hybrid section, I think there are a couple of those year trucks that have a ls swap in it. The ac thing is super easy also. Hotrod air and vintage air make some really great ac systems that bolt in really easy. Josh

Yes, a LSx swap is possible in that truck. I have seen a few of them done in the past.
I love the older Chevy trucks, but I am more of a fan of the '55 (2nd series) - '57 body style. I used to own a '55 2nd series with the big window cab. My brother-in-law now has it and it is sitting in hundreds of pieces. I will have it back one day!

Yeah the T6060 is the new beefed up 6spd that most US automakers are using.

The adapter plates are readily available. If it has a sbc in it, a lsx will go right in.

Cam72,
The T6060 is the same as a T56 with upgrades basically (well lots of upgrades - wider more straight cut gears, triple and double synchros, etc.). The tailshaft is a little longer, but the case will bolt to a T56 bellhousing. This should be a straight forward swap with a custom harness. Motor mounts and trans mounts are easy as well.

G-Z06, sounds like a badass idea you've got and most of the other guys here have posted my ideas. 12 bolt or 9" rear and get that A/C working! the blue one looks badass that you posted too
