Damn, i was wondering when someone was going to do that ****. What is the limitation? I thought certain classes were open and some just didnt allow electronics or aluminum heads.

What are the motor specs? Ci?Heads?Cam?

I bet they are so ****** pissed you can effortlessly get in and out without a ton of money.

You carbed or still EFI?

I love the idea and would really like to see how this turns out in the end.

I know I talked to you about this for some time but, I just can't get over the deal you got on the car and motor trans for it.

You need to put a in car camera so we get the full vid.

Get some more vids of it...

still efi, 4.8L stock ls1 cam, 5.3Lsprings so we could hit 7000 rpm, 4l60e tuned to stay in second gear. going with a little more motor next season for a little better torque coming outta the turns. i'll get some more vid as soon as i can.

i tried to talk my buddy into swapping to a LS series in his car but he ended up going with the crate motor class. but the buzz i heard last was that he was looking into a GM crate LS motor with around 500hp, so we'll see, the rules are the biggest limit.

yeah, there are no classes at our track that allow for an LS but i sweet-talked the track owner into letting me do it as a spec. car and running with our street stocks. we just wanted to prove a concept. ...that we could build a super cheap car using newer, more readily available parts, and still be competitive. (sbc blocks are getting more and more expensive and harder to find)

c'mon now!!! lol i DID say we were building something a little bigger for next season, besides, with the normal rules package for these cars i wasn't too far off the curve for horse power, just a little shy on the torque. it just goes to show you what we already know about an LS -vs- a sbc.

What are you going to do? 5.3?

What are your limitations? EFI is restricted? I am sure it is. You interested in going carbed? Do you HAVE to run a distributor?

going to a 5.3l, supposed to run 1st gen sbc under 360c.i.d., not supposed to run efi but i sweet talked the track owner into letting me run as a spec car. not going carb due to cost and power gains, we just wanna be competitve and as cheap as possible.

Well, carb is cheap, but it will make way more power, so i guess, well, maybe carb the 4.8?

Either way, you still are breaking the rules not using a old GEN I right?

yeah, i'm totally breaking all the rules, but like i said we are just running as a spec. car. and true the carb is cheap but the intake is a little pricey but it's way cheaper to go with stock stuff. i got the 4.8L and trans for $200 bucks and a local junk yard sponsored me the 5.3L that's going in it next season. both are compleat pull-outs so the most cost effective way for me to go is to stick with stock stuff. we wanted to stay under $2000 for the whole car and so far we've been pretty close.

Oh ok, my intake was 270$ and the ignition controller was 310$, so for 600$ you have an outstanding intake and total ignition control with a lap top.

we have efi live and have had a lot of success with that, plus we can tune the trans to stay in second so with the 4.11 gears we have a 7.00 final drive ratio which is were we need to be goning into the turns

If aluminum heads aren't allowed, the early LQ4 engines had cast iron 317 heads

The suspension on the 82 up F cars is not ideal what so ever for dirt track.

Use a 6.0 block and get rid of some of the cubes by offset grinding the rod journals. Iron LS heads to stick to the rules if you can find them and throw in a Z06 cam.

most of the cars out there make about 280-300rwhp and 360tq.

The little 4.8 did 274/250. So with the 5.3 it will put him 265/295 with stock cam. So once he can find a used cam in the 210 to 220 duration he should be 330/330. Which will be plenty competitive and hopefully keep the other drives from complaining. They were already throwing a fit with the 4.8L.
