I had a friend who started working cleaning tanks. He makes pretty good pay now and some kind of foreman. He asked me if I wanted in as a helper. Told him I'm no ones helper, my helper days are over. I think he mentioned like 18$ hour and crazy hours and OT. Not bad for entry level I guess. It's hard work in confined spaces. I'm gonna ask see if his co. Still hiring

I did not read all the post but maybe someone has already said. If your new and want to make good money get into I/E, plants always need I/E and the work is not hard. You get your foot in the door for that and you can work your way to being a Tech. I/E pays $12-mid 20's hr being a Tech $30-$40 local or if you want to work on the road jobs $45-75 hr plus PD.....Good luck

Yeah I've been working 90 hour weeks since November. Sucks.
Austin has a little work all over Houston. Shell just started recently.
I would not suggest going into pressure washing, scaffold building, insulating, or fire proofing. The pay is just not there for the work you deal with.

not to be an *** but it's 2080 for 40 hours a week 40x52 weeks is 2080 and at 1600 hours over time that's 30.76923 overtime so that's 70.76923 hours at a min a week +/- that's working 365 days all year with no days off! At an even number here is 106k $24 an hr $24x40hr= $960 over time $36x30hr=$1080 =$2040x52hr=$106080 that's a **** load of over time for such a little pay!
Also, operators make well more than $24/hr. $24 would be starting pay. Top pay is usually $35+. Where I work we work 12hr shifts but we get 8hrs straight and 4hrs overtime every scheduled day. When we come in on an overtime shift(12hrs) our overtime rate is 1.71 instead of 1.5 x straight pay. Also, double time (7th day) is paid at 2.28 x straight pay which is slightly more than double-time-and-a quarter.
So really, your math doesn't really apply...in the case of an operato anyway.

Your math would be right if you're assuming that we work a standard 40hr week plus overtime schedule... but this isn't the case. He may be talking about an operator schedule. Operators don't work on a 40hr mon-fri work week. We work rotating shift work and, in my case, and others, is based off a 48hr 4-12 work week. (DuPont schedule is very common as well) I made well more than what that guy posted and worked far less than 1600hrs overtime...maybe 700max.

I know how your shift goes and true my math would not apply to you but for a contractor it would most likely would apply.
