Default new ford truck question? 4.6 vs 5.4

what do yall think the gas mileage diff is between the 4.6 v8 and the 5.4 v8. This truck will never pull anything nor will it be 4 wheel drive. just might get to drive and have something roomy and big. Plus i love how they look

id go w/. the 5.4, it's a night and day diff. power wise. the gas mileage will probably suck either way you go. those ford motors aren't very efficient.

but if there is a big power diff then the gas mil. in the 4.6 must be noticable better. like i said this truck will never tow or haul anything. just to drive

Had a 2001 S/C w/4.6 got 23mpg,pulled 20' trailer loaded w/3000# car just fine. Then traded it for a 2002 Harley supercharged got 11mpg, didn't matter if I pulled 20' trailer or not still 11mpg. Go w/4.6

I have never heard of anyone getting mileage like that with any triton motor.

My brother in law has that exact truck except 1999, and he doesn't even get 15 mpg, and my step-dad has the 5.4 version and gets about the same.

My friend had a 4x4 V6 RCSB 5 spd and was getting 13 in the city. They just suck gas it doesn't matter what motor you get, but if you're going to get one might as well get the 5.4.

Well I did, maybe it was one those freck deals, with the price of fuel wished I still had it. Currently I have a 05 GMC extended cab w/5.3 that gets 18mpg w/3.73 rear.

if you arent towing or even getting a 4X4...why would you even consider a bigger engine that will guzzle down more gas than the other especially at $3 a gallon? Does not make any sense. All you want is a big and roomy vehicle so the bigger engine should be out of the question. Must you make things difficult for yourself?

4.6 no ball and ok at best gas milage 5.4 some ***** but gas hog for sure my friends complain about getting 15 around town and 17 on the hwy. My 5.3 does pretty good all around for a DD that is all stock I average 17-20 mixed driving and I have gotten over 20 on the road a quite a few times as a comparison.

Yup, I know several guys that have had the 5.4's and were gettin anywhere from about 11-15 mpg.

My 04 GMC Crew Cab that was cammed/stalled/ and 3.90's got 18-25. 16-17 on track days, lol. My newest 04 GMC with 3.73's gets anywhere from 18-23, and my 06 Silverado Z71 on 3.42's and 31" tires gets anywhere from 17-22 or 23, all these are with the 5.3 and the Z71 is with the high output Alum Block 5.3.

Don't get me wrong, not trying to bash the Fords, well maybe a little, but if you're going for gas mileage Chevy/GMC is the only way to go.
