Question Which way to take the car

I am struggling to make a decision on which direction to go with the Camaro. A little background, it is a 97 and is a shell. No seats, carpet, etc. the only thing in the car is the dash everything else is gone/sold. I am debating on going True Street in TTT5 and not have a street car. Or scrap the TTT5 plan and buy a car setup for it already and street the Camaro. Or sell it and be pissed off. I ask this of the guys out there that had street cars and turned them to strictly track cars and have missed the fun you can have with a street car. If I go street it is going to have to be insane HP wise, and TT5 well it will be a seasonal step. First True Street then build up to Extreme, then Limited.

well, I'm in the same boat as yourself. I plan to run TS when I get mine done, however I that is not my main goal with it. The main goal is to run a 5.x on big tires and have fun, running TS is just something that would be fun also. good luck either way.

I am also going to have it on a 9" tire so I can run in some other events and mid 5's is the goal for the TS class.

keep it a street car. you will get sick of a 1/4 mile only car that you can never take for a drive legally that is

Haha, just ask Mr powell, or Badboy4life if they would ever do it to their cars again! Those are two guys that I know who at one time had really quick street cars with all the creature comforts and then went all out drag cars with them.

That is a very hard decision. I have gone through the street car stage, then drag car stage, and back to the street car stage. There are pro's and cons of both. The best thing about a street car is you can enjoy it almost everyday. The bad thing is when you are enjoying it, you take the risk of getting a ticket for it. The drag car thing is BAD *** when your in it or out of town at a race traveling the country. Just do what you enjoy more, and remember that there is always going to be someone faster no matter which route you take.

If you decide to go the race car route take a good look at the requirements for each of the 3 classes. I think it would be fairly expensive to go from 1 class to the next and be competitive.

It's tough man...I say keep it safe and play on the track. I mean most usually start out with a street car, mod stuff, make it faster, want more, it's a fever, sometimes to the point like where I am where I wonder WTF my radio is still doing in the car...I can't hear the damn thing anyway anyway many end up with a drag car. I used to play on the street but it's nerve racking sweating about cops, most of them around here know my car and know I race at HRP. My jobs not worth losing over some BS street race. But I drive to the track, drive it to work, to car shows locally, just not crazy long distances, don't push my luck.

I'm in the same boat. I am doing suspension and mild things before I make the final decision. I don't think I want my car to be 100% track dedicated. Play around on the street from now to then. Then again I'm not shooting for a specific class either.

I went too far with my car and made it suck to drive on the street. I hated the th350 trans and roll bar for daily driving. I just pulled the n20 out because I dont want to risk breaking something or having a cop eyeballing my bottle. I still have the H/C and that is gonna stay.

I hate driving a hybrid car every day. I say pick either street or race but not both.

I am leaning toward keeping the Camaro a street car for the fun and looking at buying a race ready roller. Thanks for the thoughts guys.

Bill, just build a sick street car that you can take to the track and run a TS class if you wanted to do so

Probably not a bad idea but the T/S guys are running 5.7's, might be kind of hard to do with a street car.

I can't tell you what to do with your specific car,
but I can tell you its nice to have a track car and a street car,

I can't say which one I could live without, but I know I could not live without at least one of them!

Of course my track car is still streetable, but not for long.

I have an ex-dd that was way more fun as a street car. I regret the huge cam, big blower build-up it got, took a lot of the fun out of driving, having to worry about so many things and not enjoying driving like you should be. I think you should do the build but make sure you still have a fun street car to drive also.
