i understand why he asked, there are huge debates on other forums that just bash fram to death lol, via them being made outta cardboard...

i have yet to have an issue with them, use fram superduty in the V6 firebird, V8 T/A, and pontiac GP 3.1l

cut open a fram and compare it to a wix or purolator. youll see how cheaply made they are.

who cares if they're cheaply made. As long as they serve the purpose and get the job done.

I've never used them but I've been told by many people that they basically filter too good. It may sound crazy but people tell me that the filters are to tight so they don't let enough oil flow through so they rase your oil pressure. But as always alot of people don't know what they're talking about. I personally use mobil 1 because I've always liked they're products and it seems like after I clean my oil and change the filter the old oil looks the cleanest.

Besides the fact that they are card board inside, IIRC they allow the oil to bypass the filter easily. A decent inexpensive filter would be the Walmart Supertech. I prefer Wix or Delco, but have ran Supertech.

What makes them so great? They filter well, have a lot of surface area (more pleats per inch) so they restrict less while filtering better. They also have a metal plate at the end that doesn't allow the oil to bypass like the crappy cardbaord piece that Fram uses.

i use the k&n gold filters. i like the 1" nut on the end of them it makes it easier to remove them without having to use a oil filter wrench. used them on both my camaros. on my explorer i use purolator pureone's.

I have used fram on mild motors and been ok. But I finally starting building motors that make some power and move some oil and kept burning up bearings and couldn't figure out why. Fram filters collapes when a high volume of oil is passed through them for an extended period of time. Soon as I cut one open and saw it for myself I switched filters and have not had a bearing issue since.

WIX ???! Yea Fram would be ok for my 2.2l Cavalier, but honestly the quality is just not there to stand up to high powered engines.
