Default How not to park your Mustang.

Car Falls from Parking Garage, Killing Driver

Driver Killed in Parking Garage Plunge

HOUSTON -- A driver apparently trying to back his car into a spot in a high-rise apartment building's parking lot instead drove through a brick wall, sending the car crashing to a rooftop more than 40 feet below and killing the driver, officials said.

Houston Fire Department officials said the driver, who was not identified, was trying to back his Ford Mustang into a space on the fifth floor at about 6:30 p.m. Monday.

"The driver lost control, crashed through the wall and fell 41 feet to the building below," Houston Police Sgt. L. Lefler said.

Meredith Morin, a 37-year-old resident of the apartment building, said she heard a loud noise before seeing the car crash through the wall.

"I could have been killed," Morin said. "Those were big chunks. Bricks rained around me."

Only slightly bizarre. Too bad it killed the driver and the convertible Mustang.

Don't most parking garages have metal wires and parking bumps to prevent **** like that from happening?

Either he/she hit the gas instead of the brake and floored it, or that's a suicide... either way, that sucks

I thought concrete structures are supposed to be filled with rebar unless the builders decided to cut costs and avoid putting it in (someones getting sued)

Cant imagine it would be possible to slowly back into the space and accidently hitting the gas to propel through a concrete wall

that building is pretty old, it wouldn't have the safety features new garages have. might see some guards put in and bumper level now if there is any room.

My thoughts, too, were of the brick wall and how much force would it take to push a Mustang going in reverse through that wall.

Maybe he had it in reverse and thought it was first and attempted to haul *** out of his parking spot. That would explain the skid marks and the horrible accident!

His foot might have slipped off the clutch and the engine might have caught. I've had that happen to me once in my Camaro. Nearly lurched the ******* car into a pole at a gas station.

Reverse is geared really low also. Could have potentially picked up speed in no time.

I was also thinking suicide (and/or) clutch issues...?

It sounds like he just made a bad mistake somewhere.
Is it possible he could have parked in the spot and then been distracted by somethin like a phone, and forgot to pull the e-brake or turn the engine off and just took his foot off the clutch to get out, causing him to shoot backwards through the wall? Maybe he was new to stick. It would help if we knew if the car was a manual. It doesn't look like it would be too hard to break through the wall with a car that heavy.
