yes, it is legal.

My company does it and it's in the HR Policy book as well. Be grateful that it is 15 minutes.

We dock an hour, or they have to take a vacation hour.

well, I tell our guys to wait until your time is up, but they are still required to work an 8 hour day no matter what. Basiclly, they take the 1 hour off their vacation mostly. So they only have to "work" 7 technically, but the 8th hour is "paid".

You'd have to consult with your boss and HR at your company. IT's a pain in the *** to keep track of, I tell you what.

Shoot to be at your job at least 15 min ahead of time. I personally get up at 5:30 to get ready so I am in the vicinity (with in a 5 minute drive) of work by 6:20-6:30 and eat breakfast and read until 6:50 to be at work at 7:00.

Why should you care? Because in 3 years I also went from a being a lowly Chemtech to a Lead Planner in charge of production scheduling for 3 plants and I'm making twice the salary. Granted I have the back ground, but had I been consistantly tardy I doubt I'd have gotten further than QC Chemist if even that far.
on that buddy!

I live 25 miles from work, I live in Crowley and drive to Grand Prairie 6 days a week. Just to make a point, I tell ALL my technicians (about 33 of them) that I work 6:30 to 5 Monday thru Friday and I'm here at 6:20 EVERY morning.

I've got some guys that live 5 - 8 minutes away and are CONSTANTLY late. I mean, really. To ME, there is no excuse to being late.

The traffic excuse doesn't buy either. Espeically since everybody know where the traffic is, and to go around the "bad" traffic areas or...LEAVE EARLIER!!!!

I've been with this company 2.5 years now, already supervising everybody in our shop. Some guys have been here like 11+ years and still "lowely" technicans in comparison to my position.

Quit being late, especially twice in one week. If you complain about them docking you, it will only make matters worse. Then they'll look for reasons to get rid of you.

If you're early, you're on time. If you're only on time, you're late.

Ya, I didn't realize I deleted my other post until I did it. Don't know what I was thinking.... Damn brain farts! TGIF though!

Being late is a pet peeve of mine and unfortunately many people don't see anything wrong with it. They think work starting at 7 means 7-ish. IMO you're at your work space and ready to go by 7. Makes it hard to find people you want to keep.

I had one really good technician that would constantly call me at 8:35 (we have a 1 hour window to get to work, between 7:30 to 8:30) to say he was "running" late.

On the 3rd day in a row, I gave him a verbal (written file, not in HR), warning to quit being damn late.

The next Monday, late again, gave him a real HR file written warning.

The NEXT Monday, late again, this time 9am, I had to suspend his *** 3 days without pay.

He's gone 3 straight weeks without being late, but still strolls in at nearly 8:30.

IRRITATING as ****, my boss wanted to can him, but I talked him out of it. He's a friend of mine, I didn't want to suspend him, but had to, to follow HR policies.

NEXT time, he's terminated if he does it in a 30 day period. If he is late on the 31st day, he starts the warning processes all over again.

VERY Difficult to fire somebody in my company, very difficult to weed out the people that don't cut it.

I understand where you are coming from, however.

Where do you draw the line?

8:01?
8:02?
8:03??

See my point? Employees with ALWAYS take advantage of the "system", then argue "well, it was only 1 minute".....honestly, what's the difference?

Still late, whether 1 minute or 5 minutes, or 30 minutes.
