will a Dyno tune help?
well i have a 98 Trans am A4 with 112,000 mile on the clock and it runs good but i feel it isnt even close to it potential, i have K&n cold air intake and slp loud mouth exhuast im wondering if i got a dyno tune if it would help out or if it is worth the money and if i should go through with it where would be a good place around houston to get it dyno tuned at? also about how much would i be looking at?
also im not planing on doing any more mods to the car becuase i will be going off to college next semester and wont be able to afford them nor would my dad let me mod the car.
Thanks Adam

you could unlock some HP. But its not gonna be like a great gain. You relly have no mods to take advantage of a tune. But it sure wouldnt hurt.
FWIW I would do at least longtubes+camshaft with your tax return if your going to get a tune.

A tune would net 20-30 flywheel horsepower. But a tune is more than just HP. Fan temps are lowered, TQ Management removed, shift points and part throttle is also adjusted.

Why do you need more 'imput'? People already gave you good input. Getting tuned is good, but hardly a good use of that money. Have you even done the free mods to that 98 yet?
If I were you, I would get long tubes & gears at least, and if you can afford it, get a mild cam or sleeper cam that's quiet & your dad would never know He may know about the headers though. Either way, a tune isn't your best bang for buck really. Also, if you don't plan on modding it much or soon, you should probably look for other ways to spend your $.
Also, lets hope in college you learn how to spell & form sentences because your first 13 years of school failed to do so. I just love seeing our tax dollars at work.

ls1 edit is a program used to tune your car. And with the miles on your car i would take a couple hundred dollars and do some basic maintenance if you havent already. Alot of parts are designed for about 100,000 and that's it. Change the transmission fluid and filter, the rearend fluid, fuel filter, plugs, top end engine cleaner, and maybe change the 02 sensors if they are sleepy, check the pcv system hoses. I just installed ls6 heads and a ls6 cam in my friends car, and his pcv hoses were rotted out in the back causing a bad vacuum leak, not to mention the guy he paid to install his headers hooked up bank 1 sensor 1 o2 to the back plug, and his car ran bad. I fixed everything for him and installed the parts and it is like night and day, now the 17x11's get annihilated in 1st and 2nd. His car is an auto.
Also I have never had much luck with tunes. I picked up a whopping 15rwhp over stock tuning with full bolt ons and a 224 cam. Next time around i picked the shop in this area i thought was the best and that did not go my way either. My car hunts for idle all the time, surges on the low end and frankly didnt make the power it should've. Although i cant blame that on the tuner until i mess with it or get someone else to. But my dyno sheet didnt post and air fuel ratio and the graph cut off at 5800 for some reason. I was not impressed.
Tuning is the only thing i dont do myself but after two not so good experiences, I will just buy the program and learn to tune myself. After all 500 dollars for three pulls and 30min time is a joke. I dont know if everyone on here that goes to these shops are friends with the tuners, or maybe if you pay someone alot of money to install your mods then they actually spend time trying to fix idle quality and street driveability but i havent gotten either from the two shops i went to. Most of that stuff like shift points, firmness, and fans, you could do with someones used handheld tuner you could probably get for 100 used. I wouldnt waste money on a tune unless you are doing something major like an engine swap, forced induction, nitrous, or things the computer cant compensate for like swapping injector size. And that's just out of safety for the engine. I am not trying to run down the tuners just telling my experiences and opinions on the aspect of tuning.
For mods i would definately agree with headers, probably the best bang for the buck as far as bolt ons. That or a stall converter.
