My dad and I are in the process of renovating the garage. Insulation, dry wall, full electrical revamp, heating unit, oscillating fan, custom built-in bench, eventually an air compressor, and obviously a lift. The lift will primarily be used to maximize floor space. My dad's car on the lift, raised up, and my Firebird underneath. (My dad's fully restored 1971 Triumph Spitfire, his first car which was purchased when he was 15. He's now 53...)

The question at hand is if anyone has any sort of experience with any specific brand. We've talked about getting a lift with a jack that rolls/moves between the ramps underneath the center of the car. The ones we have looked at have manual jacks. I believe we'll go with something along those lines simply because we don't know when we will install a compressor, and just having the jack to do brake/tire/suspension work will be nice.

Please post up if you have any personal experience or know of any companies that have a good review. We've done some research but obviously gathering more information can never hurt.

I have a propark 8000 with jack tray and caster kit to move hoist around shop on cement surfaces. I got it from ADG Forward in Mississauga Ontario Canada
cost 2800 with tax. takes 2.5 minutes from bottom to top(kinda slow) but faster than jack and stands and way more convenient. I think it was a great investment and compliments my fab shop perfectly

I also have a propark 8000 with jack tray, drip pans and caster kit but mine is Plus model. I have 12 ft ceilings in my garage so this works well. This way I can park my TA on top and the DD below and not hit my head on the lift. I got mine from Greg Smith Equipment in Ind. I got it on sale about 2 years ago for $2100 with freight. Now I couldn't live with out one. This essentially turns my two car garage into a three car garage.

Bendpak 9000#. Has a couple different length width and height configurations. Works great, price was around $2700.

http://www.asedeals.com/garage_lift.html

I have the Bendpak HD-9ST. Needed something narrow to fit the space I had.

I looked at the backyard buddy. I liked the design, but they werent certified at the time. I dont know if they are yet or not. They had no cable safety locks. Meaning if a cable broke, the car was falling. The Benpak has a 2nd set of latches on rollers. If a cable breaks or has slack for some reason, the secondary latch engages and doesnt drop the car. Bendpak was also cheaper.
