NE1 use the new J-P-R Lifters rods...
not new persae, but the revised ones? I have a set of the 1st batch and found out there needed to be an updated one for use on 02' when GM swapped Lifter design/manufacturer. Cant use the old design, so I wanted to swap to the new ones. I like the tool itself.

I got a pair from the newest batch. I havn't used them on an '02 but both of them bound up real bad in my 2000. Took me a good hour to work them out. I'm going to grind them down alittle and give them one more shot in my pick up, if it happens again they are headed for the trash.

I ended up using 2 ft of 5/16 steel rod from home depot for the drivers side and 2 ft of 3/16 rod with velcro tape wrapped around it (hot dog style) for the passenger side. The reason I had to use 3/16 with velcro on the passenger side is for some reason the 5/16 got stuck a couple inches in.

Well, majority wins. Will pick up the homedepot rods. JPR, thats what you get for closing in on a SN Sorry.
Seems everyone had the same binding on the passenger side, odd. I just dont want a lifter to drop on my buddies car. But, trust is what this ***** all about *more like gambling*

Forget the wood or the 5/16 and grinding or velcro or other crap. I used (2) 1/4 aluminum rods from Home Depot and paid $7 for both, The aluminum lets you flex the rods a bit if you need when sliding from the front of the motor, and the lifters wont slide past the 1/4 rod. I sharpened the tip a bit with a file and marked the rods for the length of the cam so I knew that ALL the lifters where covered( I didn't want to miss the last two guessing if it bottomed out). I gave the rods to a friend after I finished and he used them with no sweat. Done deal.

I would have to say user error here!! I bought them because I like expensive specialty tools, fetish of mine, but they work absolutely like dream. Maybe you didnt spin your lifters out of the way and were trying to use the tool to push and pry them them up? I dont know, dont want to know, but there is nothing wrong with the rods, at all! My recomendation to anyone would be to borrow some or make your own. I lend mine out to locals because thats why I bought them.
And on a side note I would never touch jrp's rod!!
