Default Fontana drag times

Hello,

I ran my 2002 z28 at the street legal drags event in the 90-100 degree heat and it ran 13.40 at 104 with a 1.95 60 foot. Was kind of dissapointed since it has a 218/218 .555 cam, milled amd ported 241 heads, stock ls6 intake, 6 speed 4.10 gears, 9" rear and et streets. Is this time normal for this kind of setup? I thought I would easily break into the 12's. Launched kind of easy because it still has the stock driveshaft, but the trap speed concerns me

Any idea what the elevation and DA was? If it's not high then something is definitely wrong. Ever dyno the car?

Is that a corrected 3500ft elevation?

All things being equal expect to lose 2 tenths at Fontana in the heat.

Fontana is not that great of a track and you will run slower there especially if you dont tune for it. Plus its an up hill track on top of that.

I would have to think that it was crappy air out there when you ran. Go back out in the fall/ winter time and watch your et and mph pick up with the better atmospheric conditions.

A proper set up on the car would be something else to look into.

Just trying to help so good luck.

What day did you go? Was it July 27th? I was there in a black ls1 trans am with my car club (about 8 trans ams). The DA was horrible , we all ran horrible numbers that day.

We have basically stock cars, some with light bolt ons. We normally run low 13s to mid 13s. We were ruining about .7-.8 seconds slower.

Unless you were hot lapping and your coolant and iat temps were sky high, you still should've run quicker. No reason based on the mods you listed that you shouldn't run a 12 on your worst day, unless something is wrong.

Also you need to get your 60ft way down. If you get a 1.5-6 you would've ran 12s all day

I ran my car that day also, and my best time was 13.51@111mph with a 2.4 60ft in my bone stock 03' z06. It was very hot and the prep wasn't very good either. I think you should have your car checked out to make sure everything is good with your car

Default Fontana drag times

Yeah, the track isn't the best. I'd highly advise you, and everyone else around that area, not to expect decent times in the heat. I think October through February you will run a lot faster.

Oh, and nice trap speed on the Z06 for that track in this heat. I was only trapping 110 in the heat, but have trapped at 113 in Fontana on cooler days.

Yeah, the heat was really killing everyone's times and mph. I trapped 109 a couple times and 111 a couple times too. There was a white auto c7 z06 running 12.2s at 117mph and a 15' z28 camaro running 13.8-14.6s at 108mph. Even though the times were not very good, it's always fun going down the track.

Ya, I raced that 5th gen z28 a couple times and surprisingly beat it, thats when I realized its a slow track. Hopefully the weather is better in the fall, I was thinking of going this Sunday but its supposed to be in the 90s

Going to run at Irwindale to see what difference it makes, hopefully a few tenths quicker.

In my experience, irwindale has always been at least a few tenths quicker than Fontana. Good luck man
