About that exhaust and tinting ticket...
Well as a few of you know I got nailed for modified exhaust and tinted windows. Well I went to the referee today, a little nervous when he popped my hood mumbled about the headers (with CARB # stamped on them ), but he sets up his little sound guage about 3ft behind my tailpipes. Also he had to have seen my electric cutout from the way he was crouched behind the car. Anyways it's supposed to read 95 db +/- 1.5, but they slowly rev your car up to 3750 and I was 20 ft behind my car and I was surprised by the way the exhaust was booming. Guy come back and says "Well.... it's supposed to read 95, it was reading just a little loud." I say "How loud?" He says "Eh around 105-106 , but we don't get many muscle cars here, usually just rice rockets, so I'll give you a pass because it sounds good." Seriously I have shorties, a cat, and a magnaflow catback, which is the quietest catback ever, and it was 10 db over the limit. I can't see how even a stock camaro would pass that crap. Whatever, glad I wasted an hour of my time for that effing cop. Oh at least there's no charge for doing the test, otherwise I'd be waaaay pissed.
What's everyone think about putting 2 or 3 baffles in my exhaust after my cutout so that way it'd be whisper quiet when I have the cutout closed? Not now, but after my cam goes in because I really don't wanna have to go back to the ref, they scare me.

cool story, its nice to see you had a cool ref who's against rice. Shorties/cat/magnaflow doesn't seem like it would warrant a fix-it-tixket, oh well some cops are dicks, I woudn't bother with the baffles personally but its maybe not a bad idea if your throwing a cam in there.

Yeah I was worried, the guy was 40ish had some nerdy lookin glasses... But it was good. I got pulled over for something other than tinting and exhaust , but I have a cutout which was open at the time I got nailed. I went to the ref with my buddy, and he was like "hey that guys seems real cool, why don't you ask him to meter it with the cutout open too?" yeah right, I may only be bolt on, but I imagine it'd be well over 110.

One trick that many use at the track is a temporary 90 degree elbow comming off the exhaust tip and aimed away from the rear. Seems to be good for 5-10 dB reduction. Your inspector was a good guy, hope you bought him a soft drink or something at the very least.
One time I got pulled over 100+ in a 45 zone by a CHP 'cause my exaust was soooo loud it got his attention from the freeway. Damn glad I weasled my way out of that ticket. Catalytic convertors went back on the next morning.

Sure I'll post some clips next weekend after my smog legal camshaft is installed and I take off my cutout and put my stock exhaust back on . Silly california... "Thats just a cat back" lol SSpeedracer how did you end up getting pulled over by the cop on the freeway? Actually my girlfriend was cool about me getting pulled over, I didn't tell her why I really got pulled over though...

i got a fix-it ticket for exhuast also, when i went to it about a month ago, they didnt even pop the hood, they stuck the mic right behind the exhuast to test the db and like you said 95 +/-1.5. This was on the Gold T/A which is stock and it read 96.2, so i passed but barely
