Default what happens when you use 4 1/4" backspace wheels?

i tried to read the sticky, couldn't find any pertinant information about this. looking at the repo cast snowflake wheel from yearone, but looking at the 78-81 version (17x9) b/c of fatter lip. will this work on its own, or will i need spacers? any help would be appreciated.

Assuming the wheels are intended for use on the car in your signature, the 4.25" backspacing will have your wheels/tires sticking about 1.5-2" outside your fenders. OE 4th gen wheels have about 6" of backspacing for the 8" wheels, and about 6.5" for the 9"ers.....

that would look pretty dumb then. i just liked the look of the fatter lip on the older wheels, not enough to do that though...i checked again and i think it's actually 4 7/8", but that won't make that much difference. i bet you couldn't turn the wheels all the way for lack of front inner fender clearance.

Oh yeah, I'm an "old timer" and was raised on deep-dished wheels!! They look the nuts, but unfortunately they just won't work on the 4th gen cars.....

i talked to year one yesterday and told them to read on here...if they made the 4th gen wider than 9" for the deep dish, they wouldn't be able to keep those wheels on the shelves. larger that 17" might help too.

good idea, but cheaper/easier to find different wheels. besides, what's the use cutting up a 10 bolt?, especially with m6!
