Default bought a set of new tires, but...

i have a crack on the lip of my rim that is about an inch long. will this affect dismounting and mounting the tire? my biggest fear is it chipping off then i'm screwed, should i get it repaired prior to putting the new tires on or am i gonna have to buy another rim?

i would buy another wheel, just my opinion, could fail anyime if not when tire installed, new wheel is cheaper than new wheel and tire and lot cheaper than a new car....

Depends on how much the rims cost. I'd just get it repaired personally.

Looks superficial? Maybe a professional soldering to close the gap and prevent further problems is in order. Of course a new wheel will permanently solve your dilemma.

i'm trying to search locally to get it repaired and have all the wheels refinished. buying a new wheel would be tough since they're LE wheels.

I would get that checked out ASAP. The last thing you want is for something to happen when you least want it to.

Seriously, I doubt if anyone would even attempt to mount a tire on that rim.
There should be a place in your area that could repair your wheel. If not,
here's a link to a place that does repairs: http://www.weldcraftwheels.com/
Here's another option in case you decide not to get it repaired:
http://www.originalwheels.com/chevro...ro2002rims.php

Good luck with your car.

i have much worse cracks fixed than this, fix it before you put the tyre on, then they dont have to pull the tyre off when they repaire it

You should definitely get that repaired, it is right in the area where the tire bead seats. Stay away from those curbs.

The guy has a few le rims for sale. It would probably be cheaper to buy a rim rather than repair the one you have.

well i went and picked up my rim from being repaired.

i'm very pleased, looks really good. cost me $85 to get that area repaired. i'll be getting all four refinished by the same people within the next few weeks.
