Tire size questions, please! 26.5" front, 27" rear lowered 1.25??
Hello, I made another thread about the 20" wheels on my T/A.
http://tinyurl.com/pv9u2ul
I realize now that whoever put the wheels on must have just picked a tire size out of a hat.
Currently: Front - 245/40/20......Rear - 275/35/20
I realize stock diameter is 25.7 but my question is this:
Can I fit 275/30/20 up front (26.49) and either 305/30/20 (27.2") or 295/30/20 (27") in the rear? Does it really matter to keep the front and rear diameter close?
I just really want to keep a meaty front footprint, and the widest rear I can safely fit. Will be doing BMR/Koni 1.25" drop.
Rims are 20x9 fron 20x10 rear
Thanks a lot in advance!

I'd do the 275/30/20s on the front 20 x 9s, and go with 295/30/20s on the rear 20x10s. That also should be close enough height wise to prevent any ABS issues .
FYI, those 295/30/20s will run you at least $366 each, and a 285/30/20s start around $200 each.

Thanks for your input. I'm still on the fence about front tire width though. The few people I see who run 20s use a 245 or 255, but I would like to do 275 and at least get a better contact patch to somewhat "make up" for the lack of sidewall.
I'm pretty new to tire science....if you want to call it that. I assume the wider, the better, as long as it clears? Even on the front?
At this point I guess I am basically asking what would be best to use for front width, between 235 and 275, and why?
It is a street car, don't plan on any real racing. But I do plan on spirited mountain/backroad driving.
Thanks again

I'd still go with the 275/30/20s up front. You'll have better wheel lip protection, contact patch, and since its a popular size it'll about cost the same, or less than the smaller(narrower)sizes. In the rear go with the 295/30/20s, if the cost is to prohibitive then go with a 285/30/20s which has at least 11 models available that'll cost $50-$160 less per tire than a 295/30/20 tire. I'd check both DTD and Tire Rack for your new tires.

Right, but I was thinking maybe they went with the narrower tire for clearance reasons because its such a tall tire.
Well, we'll see how they fit late February or March.
Thanks for the reassurance, will update when I get her lowered down on the new rubber.
