Default Going Strano/koni, what tires?

I'm ordering the koni/strano shock/spring setup, I'm going to need tires really soon, I've searched the forum and most seem to recommend the nt05 or 555s for all season tires.

It's a 00 TA with a full tsp exhaust, it gets driven all year round, but rarely sees the rain and never sees snow (it's not a DD). I don't beat on it too much and I'm not going to the track anytime soon. I do live in NJ, so it does get cold out im the winter but I typically don't drive it if it's below 30 degrees

Suggestions?

Thanks

Nitto 555s sound like they fit your bill. I am very impressed with them on my car but I came from the 15" tire world where everything sucks a bag of dicks at everything.

They are cheap, last a lot of miles, handle rain fine, and in the dry they have really good grip (at least so far, I've heard their traction degrades as they age...mine have been on since spring and still stick great).

The NT-05 is far from an all season tire. It is molded with 7/32nds of tread depth. It is ok in the rain, but I would not want to being caught on the interstate in downpour. You could get by, but you would need to be careful. If you are ok with that, then I am really happy with mine. I was looking at the Ecsta XS/NT-05/Proxes R1-R when I got mine.

An entire bag?!?!?!?

Sounds like what I'm looking for.

Thanks, I'm probably going to pass on the Nt05

With what you mentioned I'd go with the Continental ExtremeContact DW or Nitto 555

Like Photochop said, I'd run the Continental Extreme Contact DW's. I ran them when I had my CCW wheels, and on a 20" rear wheel, they hooked up great and did very well in regards to wear and overall driving comfort.

An entire HUGE bag of dicks.

On a 15" street tire in 295/50r15 I could punch it from a roll and anything under 55mph or so would spin. If it spun in 1st or downshifted to 1st it would spin HARD and then upshift to 2nd and just start boiling the tires until I would lift...it would literally just lay rubber as long as I could stand to stay in throttle. Looked impressive but useless for anything else.

Since its not going to see snow another choice would be the BFGoodrich g-Force Sport COMP-2. I did a lot of research and went with these when I found and bought the original Firehawk wheels. I dont have a lot of miles on them yet but a lot of people seem to like them (if you take snow out of the picture.)

YMMV

I have 555's on my full bolt-on A4 car and they have been a good tire. When I had the car at the track they hooked decent once they were warmed up and they do fine in the rain. Good price too, I think I paid 550-560

Thanks for the replies, I'm between the continental dws and the 555s, but I am leaning towards the nittos.

I got some more researching to do...

That's what I got this year. But, the Nito 555's and Continental DW were right with them. The Continental DW are a little more money and their "rebates" are often hotel stays or something like that. That was one of the reasons I took the BFG's as they offer debit card rebates most of the year. Nitto doesn't offer deals but typically keeps their best price all year which is quite competitive. I wonder why Tire Rack doesn't offer those?

I would have bought the DW but was able to get the Comp 2's for $220/set less. If there were comparable rebates I'd have gone with the DW at $90/set more. There are a number of comparable good values among the ultra and max performance tires ($525-$675 list per set).

I'm running 555's and I like them. I drive my car all year round and is a DD with exception of decent snowfall because anything short of a snow tire on a Fbody sucks for traction in snow lol.

In COLD temps the 555's can make you pucker if you come in too hot around a turn. Just be mindful about it that's all.
