Default BFG Force DR or Nitto 555

Hi everyone, just need to know which tire is the best for street and drags for traction and milage. I want a tire that I can drive on the street and also have good hookup at the tracks and still have at least 3-5K of life. Thanks, Kevin.

The BFG's tend to grip a bit better but wear faster too. The Nitto's are good street tires, they wear and grip pretty well. If all your looking to get is 3-5K miles and won't be driving it in bad weather or anything then I'd go for the BFG's.

If you only want 3-5k miles out of a set, get the BFG's.....you'll hook WAY better than with nittos.

If traction is a issue the BFG's hands down. Ive found out that it doesnt matter if your nice to the BFG's or beat the **** out of them you get right around 9k out of them. The nittos ive seen people get upwards of 18k.

2500 on my Nittos and they are now slicks if your getting 9K on DR than you should be on street tires and yes the BFG do have better grip

18k on Nitto DR's??? Maybe on the regular 555 with a 300 treadwear, but not in a million years with the 555r's. 5k...if your nice to them. I use them, thats about all I get out of them. And they hook up good enough for me. I'm not looking to put a new rearend in my car right now, so it works out pretty good.

I've got the 555RII's which are the same as the DR, but with a stiffer sidewall and I have 12K miles on them and I drive very aggressive with them. they are down to the wear bars so I use them for auto-x only now.

The 555RII's have a stiffer sidewall? I was wondering what the difference between the 555R & the 555RII's was just never cared enough to find out. If they have a stiffer sidewall wouldnt that mean slightly less straightline traction (more for road course than just straight hooking up)?

One thing to consider is your wheels you will be mounting them on. I wound up having to go with the nittos because my 17x10 had no tire choice from BFG or else i would have gone that route since i had them on my BB chevelle. But i must say the nittos do alot better in the rain if you ever get "caught" out in it then the BFG's do. I was out in my chevelle one time and it was when my BFG's were still new and i did a 360 going about 40mph just crusing and hitting a bit of a bump and the ***-end jumped a bit and she just swung right around.

Thanks for the info, yes, drs aren't good in the rain at all. I have the BFGs NTs and they are the best tire I had so far in the rain. I'd have to make up my mind on the BFG DRs because this is my only car untill I buy a used TrailBlazer for my second daily driver vehicle. Later

they are really really stiff. Makes it feel like you don't have any suspension.
They have the same straight line traction of a DR if both are at 38PSI (street pressure I use) and both are the same size. RII's also only come in 17" and larger sizes (last time I checked since I wanted a set of 16's for the 16x9.5 wheels I bought).

My RII's were surprisingly good in the rain, much much better than I expected since I had to use them for daily duty for 12 months.

Have you had 555r's and set them at 38 PSI? I dont think your gonna get much traction on any drag radial at 38 PSI. I always drove my 555r's at 24-28 around town and would drop to around 20 at the track. When I put the pressure anywhere over 30 PSI on the 555r's they would wear out very fast and the straight line traction would drop big time.

38psi for RII's on the street does seem awful high. Have you tried lower settings? I run 25 rear and 30-32 up front on my RII's for the street and they hook OK. Plus with the lower pressure it doesn't ride like a dump truck. Then again I've been riding with them for 4 years so I'm used to the ride. Along with rod ends on the LCA's and PHR it makes some noise but I'm comfortable with it for daily driving.

Actually, no, I haven't tried them lower than 38psi. I'll try the 30-32 front and 25 rear and see how it feels. Maybe that will stop the wheel hop I get when the tires spin when they are cold.

I ran the DR's at 38psi on the street and 18psi at the track. At 38psi they hooked and felt very similiar to teh RII's.
