Slicks a bad idea on stock rear end ???
Ive got a pair of stock 16x8's I want to put some rubber on. The car is a M^ with minor mods. Ive tried the BFg dr's before but Im wondering if I should put on some slicks. The wheels will be changed at the track so there wont be any highway use. I know the rears on these cars are known for failing but would the slicks be to much even with a low RPM launch or feathering the clutch? Just not to impressed with the whole drag radial deal. They werent much better than my regular street BFG's.

well the slicks are supposed to handle mid rpm-high rpm launches, my buddy broke 3 rear ends on a near stock car with just drag radials, look into a girdle to help out a bit, and good luck

most definatly say good bye to that rear end. i would suggest not doing it. just for ****'s 'n' giggles....this was a conversation i had with my buddy on AIM who just threw on some Nitto DR's
SSCAMARO95350: haha i thought i could get away with running nittos until the winter its funny my rear lasted an hour
MBZim87: yeah that sucks
SSCAMARO95350: it sounded like **** when it blew
SSCAMARO95350: obviously you know the noise
MBZim87: yea ...been there broke that
That's why it might be a poor decision to run sticky tires on a stock rear end....

I think it has to do with alot of luck. A friend of mine ran his 98 ss with M/T slicks and 175 shot of nitrous for a good while before he broke it. He did about 20 passes or more. Just my .02

I know everybody here has read the posts about "how I broke my stock ****" but Im wondering how many people have had this happen to them on their own car. Not a friends car or you knew somebody who had it happen. Like I said I ran the BFG's last fall and had no problems with the rear but I want something a little better. But thanks for the input anyway - I know the rears arent the greatest.
