Question No M/T's for 315/35/17? Alternatives?

I can see that many prefer the ET streets to Nittos for traction on the street. I currently have Nitto 555R's in 315/35/17.

I can't find the M/T's in that size, so I presume they need the taller sidewall?

What options do I have that will hook better than the Nitto's?

The wheels are CCW 17", I think 10.5" width.

Thanks for any help,

Rich

M/T makes a 26/11.50/17 ET Street.

I have been hearing for a while they were making the 315/35/17 in a drag radial. Pretty much the same story on the 275/40/17. They say a certain date and it takes about a year or so after that.

Good info, thanks. That's 0.9 inch less contact patch width than the 315... Do you think the M/T is still going to grab better?

The overall diameter on the 315/35/17 is 25.68". Increasing the diameter to 26" would be a pretty mild change, right? Making my 3.50 rear seem a little more like 3.55? Or is it the other way around... can never remember.

My experience with the M/T's suggests that the narrower M/T will easily hook better than the wider Nitto. It should 60 ft. significantly quicker. On the downside, the M/T is not good in the rain, and you really don't want to daily drive it. Also the sidewalls are way softer on the M/T so handling is gone too, but they are awesome in a straight line. This info does not apply to the M/T drag radial.

I think I'm going to stick with drag radials; I drive the car on the street, although not daily. Am I hearing that 315/35/17 BFG drag radials have better traction than the Nitto 555Rs?

Thanks again for the info, guys...

If you drive around on the street, avoid the M/T drag radials if there is even the slightest bit of wetness on the road. Holy **** I had to drive 15 mph when I got stuck in a light summer shower while on those M/T drag radials. They wanted to slide right off the road.

Nittos are much better for daily-drivers, they handle rain okay.

Yah, I never plan to drive this car in the rain, but I'm in the bay area... so it will be unavoidable from time to time.

The BFGs work alot better than the Nittos, but not quite as good as the M/T drs. And they probably do not like the wet roads that much either.

I've owned, and currently own all three brands mentioned. Here is how I categorize them.

Best for daily-driving and slower wear, in order:
1. Nitto
2. BFG
3. M/T

Best for driving in wet weather:
1. Nitto
2. BFG
3. M/T

Best for hooking on the street:
1. M/T
2. Nitto
3. BFG

Best for hooking on the track:
1. M/T
2. BFG
3. Nitto

Not to highjack here, but has anyone tried the M&H drag radials?

How good they work and how long they last?

I like the M/Ts but I dont get any miles out of them due to them being so soft and my spool..

I have a set of BFGs in 315/35-17 ready to go on in place of the Nittos. We'll see. I am still waiting on someone to try the Hoosier 315/35-17 or 335/35-17 drag radial.

I have the 315 BFG's and they don't hook on the street with the power I make. I had 275 Nittos, when warmed (street driven) .. they got better traction than the BFGs. They still wouldn't "Hook" on the street .. but did better than the 20 foot long (3 times in row!!!) black marks left my the BFG's!

I do like the look of the BFG's ... nice and wide. But that's the only thing nice I have to say about them.

Just curious as to how the Nittos can hook better on the street but worse on the track?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read the nittos hook better on the street rather than BFG but BFG and M/T hook better at the track. I don't think he meant the Nitto's don't hook as good at the track as they do on the street? Maybe?

Nonetheless, I need to find a replacement for the Nitto's.
