Default 555r versus 555

Is there a big difference between the Nitto 555 and the 555r?

Anyone actually ran both of these tires?

555R is a drag radial...555 is a regular street radial. If you want traction, your best bet is the drag radial. If you want it to be safe in all weather conditions, your best bet is the 555. You'll give up the sticky compound though.

So pretty big difference.

Well, a friend was supposed to hook me up with two 555r tires. I got them for cheap and they looked like the same tread pattern I saw online, so I thought they were the right tire. I later realized that they are actually nitto 555 tires, not the 555r tires.

I needed rear tires either way, but I mainly use them on the street and am going to use them at the track as well. I will be full bolt-on and still be on the stock 10 bolt with my M6. Maybe it's better that they aren't the 555r because I will have less chance of breaking the rear. Oh well....

I'd say you probably are better off then...having your car towed home wouldn't be much fun.

You won't break the rear with boltons unless you have gears too. 555r's are alot stickier, the 555's are just a street tire, not much difference among street tires.

555's are what you run on the front.

555R's on the back

The Rs (and the road race R2s) also have a much bigger block (less cuts/sipes) tread pattern than the regular street 555s. This is what actually makes them not as good in the rain as the 555s, NOT the compound.
